Panther's tail gets slightly bloated

Hi there,

Introducing myself as a beginner in Chameleon keeping. Appreciate your kind advise :)
My Panther's tail area (near the anus) gets bigger since the past week under my care. I do not know why, my presumption is that its the food that it eats and kept as storage? just a wild guess.

My little pet is 6 months only and a male.

Appreciate senior's kind inputs.

Cheers

Welcome!

We would need to see some pics in order to determine whats going on.

But it could just be he is maturing.

the base of the tail on male panthers can get pretty thick looking.

Hi there,

Attached is the photo of my little one with its fat tail

I have to agree with Jann, you need to get your little guy to a vet and soon. That is not normal and needs to be looked at ASAP by a good reptile vet with chameleon experience. Keep us posted on his condition.

Nope, in my country this pet is actually not allowed.
Let me post some pics again tomorrow. I actually asked the shop that i purchased the chameleon and they claimed that its the semens and i will expect some yellowish discharge after sometime.

I have attached another pic i think taken a day of 2 later from the 1st pic. The lump have subsided. But after eating again i think the lump grew a little big again but not as large as the 1st pic.

I think that the store gave you bad information, nevermind selling you an illegal pet. If that is a buildup of semen, it is a VERY BIG PROBLEM. It is not uncommon for sperm plugs to get stuck, but I have never seen swelling like that. It is likely that the area is already infected and your little guy will probably perish if not seen by a good reptile vet soon. That is likely not something that will get better without proper treatment.

I understand that you may get in trouble for having him if you take him to a vet, but it is his life that has been put in jeopardy by purchasing him illegally. I hope that you are able to help him in some way.

I noted on that. Thanks thanks. I will update you guys again on the tail situation tomorrow. :) It is actually 5 AM over here now :)

Hi there,

managed to catch a shot of the little one. The tail area didn't seem that fat any more. :)

Hmm looks better, did you take it to the vet?, did it clear by itself?, did you do something to help with the swelling?

Sana

its all in the color patterns. i wonder if there is a thread about distinguishing different panther locales?

What states don't allow chameleons? hope your guy is feeling better!

This lovely country of mine not only do not allow chameleons, sugar gliders, various reptiles and even certain aquatic species are prohibited. But well, not too nice to state the country in social media. :)

PS: Our country do not allow chewing gums as well.:eek:
