Phidippus audax (Daring Jumping Spider).

Cainschams

New Member
Ive been spotting this guy for a while now. Always in between the cages and never in a good spot to snag. Well, today he was captured:D These guys are pretty damn cool. Awesome looks and very cool movements. Very quick little boogers who have a tremendous jump for their size. I have fed these spiders to most of my chams being able to catch them more in the summer. The movements definitely attract a chameleon! Some websites say they can pack a good bite but I have had no problems with that either. Seems they are usually some what squashed between the chams tongue and object they are on or just plain surprised:p

My problem here is, after I caught him I decided to toss in a small cricket to see his reaction. Well, he was right on it!!! Scurried up to it a little ways and then pounced right on him. The problem is I kind of like him:rolleyes: and did not just hurry and toss him in the cage as I usually do spiders when caught.

Will he become food and to what chameleon?

I remember when I caught one a couple months ago. It looked a little different, but it had the same blue/teal chelicerae (sp?) He was pretty fun to watch.

i believe that cricket is literally sh*ting himself

...but spiders creep me out too!

Keep the little guy ;)

A new Pet :D

I am having a hard time trying to decide and I dont even like spiders:D It would probably be pretty funny to watch when I catch various types of spiders. Usually am all creeped out:eek: I just watched him devour that cricket and now on to the second one. The only thing left of the first are the two back legs:eek: However they are so much fun watching a cham chase it around too! Decisions, decisions.

Edit: Looks like its time to sweep the cham room. LOL

set spider traps around your yard. spiders are awesome i owned many spiders in las vegas/ and it utah for college. spiders are like sharks they are given bad names every spider i owned was very docile and love to be handeled ive never had a jumping spider just tarantula. i wish i could own them here :( i miss all my pets dearly :(

I say keep him and have spider gladiators. When you get a new one put them in together and let them fight until one wins. they you'd have the most bada** whatever kinda spider i is. Lol. J/k I've kept garden spiders before and some type of weird giant brown/white/black spider I found in the corner of my garage window. It was bigger than any other spier I have ever seen in michigan so I decided to keep it. When I got around to feeding it off my 6 month old panther took care of it and enjoyed the mouthful of spider that was gut-loaded with silkworms and whatever else I threw in with it. All my chams love spiders so whenever I catch any I feed them off. I make sure I feed them off with tweezers so I know they aren't re-escaping though.

I've never seen 'em up in NY, but I think those are the same ones I used to see a lot here in FL...or maybe not, the ones im thinking of get a fairly good size. but they are black and white striped and i think had the colored fangs like that.

Well, he's probably already digested by now but, if its not too late, I'd say keep him. I've kept jumping spiders before -- If you give it a pedestal or branch and release a fly inside you might get to see him grapple it out of mid-air.

Wow our ones in South Africa are a lot duller in colour

Apparently they super clever and there is a show on them (national geographic i think) where they identify themselves in mirrors and all kinds of impressive things.

I aways feed those jumping spiders to my cham no problem at all. Lets see if you decide to keep it or feed it to the little dragons.:)

It is still alive:D I will have to try the fly trick. Right now its in a mason jar with some twigs and "stuff" and a screen lid. I have to say that its friends will not be so lucky!
