Picasso the rescue male panther- DAY 3

So today is the 3rd day since I brought poor Picasso home and already looks 100% better. The sores look to be healing and the 2 huge ones that are on his face have shrunk dramatically from 3 days ago. When I got up this morning and turned his daytime lights on he was already awake, alert and milling around his cage. He ate about a dozen crix with their legs removed and a handful of mealies for me as soon as I put them in his feeding cup and sped over to where the nozzle for the drip system is as soon as it started dripping and just drank and drank and drank.

Made an appointment for early next week for my herp vet to take a look at him and hopefully get some antibiotics. I snapped some pics this morning after he had time to fully wake up. Im so happy and really hopeful he's going to pull through this, Im already getting so massively attached to him I really would be terribley upset if he didn't get better. Thanks for all the great advice, the one thing that has had me the most suspicious was that someone had mentioned that toxic plants can cause blisters and sores if the saps and juices continually get on the animal because I inspected the toxic rhododendron plant that had been kept in the cage and noticed a lot of bite and claw marks on the leaves. Im wondering if maybe after continual exposure to the toxins possibly got exacerbated by cricket bites and caused the sores on his sides. Won't know for sure till next weeks vet visit but Im very optimistic at this point. It's amazing how drastically different his health seems after just being giving proper lighting and nutrition for a few days.

Ill keep you all posted, and keep the advice flowing!

Another shot of his face and head bumps. You can see how much smaller the face bumps are from the first pics I posted a couple days ago....

Picasso Looks great. At the rate he is healing, the vet may not even know what sores you were talking about.:) I am glad he has found a loving and knowledgeable place to call home!

He is looking an amazing amount better, that is great!! I would try not to hold him much as he needs time to get comfortable and adjust to him new home. I am sure he is thrilled to have a new home with you.

I just finished the previous post on your new guy. He is looking much better. I am so glad to hear you took him regardless of his health issues. Many people would have walked away. I am sure Picasso will continue to improve and can look forward to a much healthier and happier rest of his life.

Thanks!

Thanks everyone, I really am happy he seems to be responding so well, I can't wait to see how his fired up colors look once he's 100% tip top! After only 3 days his colors are already stunning, at rest he's a really nice all over deep blue but honestly, even with bumpys all over he's beautiful to me no matter what.

It's pretty nice out so I think I'm gonna bring him in his cage out on the back deck for a while for some natural sunlight. We don't have too many more days like this in the Poconos so wanna take advantage of it while I still can.

Wow! I can't believe he's that much better in such a short amount of time. :) Fantastic! I feel so bad for the poor guy, that has to be so uncomfortable. I'm very happy that he's doing so much better, glad you brought him home, bumps and all.

It says a lot (of good things) about your character that you brought him home despite his issues. Good luck with him, besides the bump on his nose, he is an exceptionally good looking Ambilobe :)

Thank you for taking him in. I look every day for chameleons and when I find them and inquire people usually ignore me.

Picasso is a gorgeous little man.

Wow, thanks everyone:) I was just trying to do the right thing, as bad as he looked the setup was really good and with only a few changes was prefect to keep a cham nice and healthy so I knew I had a good shot at getting him well again, which was lucky cuz I don't think I could have afforded to buy all that stuff brand new and THEN try to rehabilitate him. I would have anyway but it would have eaten up my x-mas savings, being a stay at home mommy has it's drawbacks like small bank accounts. We keep mainly snakes and beardies so none of the spare caging we have laying around would have sufficed.

Anyway, he is doing better but it's gonna take a while to get him 100%. He's been sleeping most of the day today but less then yesterday and thankfully is eating and drinking pretty well considering.

What do you all think about adding a little pedialite to his water supply? I thought the electrolyte boost would do him good.

So he's an Ambilobe? I wasn't even sure but that's what I thought.

Anyway, I'll keep ya'll posted on his progress and let ya'll know what the vet has to say next week but I'm almost convinced now that the bumps along his feet and body are from that stupid toxic plant the kid had in there but we'll see. Thanks again for all the great advice!

wow ...he looks so much better ...even the swelling in his hands is down. I believe that it was what I thought and it was the plant that was causing most of his issues. he most likely still need some meds. and some special care but I bet you will have a stunning guy on your hands in just a short amount of time.
so glad you took him in ... you are one great guy yourself...:D

he is looking so much better :) but I dont think he is a "morning" guy- he looks a little grumpy - get that boy a cup of coffee :p so glad he is doing well for you , cant wait to see how he looks in a week at the rate he is improving for you :D
