Hi all....i was hoping some of you could help me out with some pic's of laying bins eg....placement,depth,how the Chams clime in/out?? etc etc....i want to be prepared for when the time comes:confused:Thanks for any help XX

Laying bins are one thing that I don't have a photo of! Lily always had one permanently in the back of her cage, and when I could see the eggs in her I added another to the front of the cage. I'll measure them later and let you know the sizes, but one was a large 4 litre icecream tub. First clutch she laid in the back bin, and the second she laid in the front bin. The back one was exactly the same the second time!! They both had a mix of compost and play sand. Just make sure that whatever you choose as a laying medium, is damp enough to hold it's shape. Don't forget that the top dries out after a while so it will need misting too.

Howdy Ronnie,

A laying container in the enclosure works. Many have used the 32 gallon trash can method and hopefully, someone will post info and a photo of it.

I was helping a friend with a very gravid panther and used this method:

The potted plant sat on top of about 12" of a mix of damp potting soil and play sand. The open-bottom screen enclosure was wedged into the plastic bin such that she had plenty of room between the screen enclosure framework bottom and the laying soil. She would bask and drink up top and then head down to dig. She dug a few test holes and then laid her clutch. The entire process of test digging and laying took a couple of days.

A couple of people have told me that a 5 gallon bucket works well. You fill it up so there is about 12" of dirt (60/40 peet moss/play sand) and make sure you leave enough side wall of the bucket so that your cham can not climb out. I placed the bucket in a corner and put a sheet up around it so she couldn't see out and be distracted or scared. with my female she dug instantly. she waited till I was 'out of site' and started drilling.

The second time around I had a cham need to lay it was my Melleri Lenny. She is a LOT bigger than Caddie my female veiled in the above pictures.

so the laying bin is larger...... but still the same dirt mix.

I didn't want to bother Lenny... so I only got a couple of good pics of her... and they aren't really that good LOL

That was a really NICE setup Dave. Lot's of privacy, but still lots of room for her to roam. Pretty darn close to out in the wild.
