Please help

Ok I thought since he has not been handled alot that it would stress him too much to try to hold him. And yeah he puffs us and hisses at me if I suprise him. Today was the first ide ever seen the spots.

That bulb is fine but it's just for heat for basking (unless it's a mercury vapour bulb with uvb as well?)The hottest spot he can get to should be 88F. He absolutely needs a uvb bulb as well. Tubes are usually best, 5.0 is best, reptisun are the best quality you can get (mine have reptiglo bulbs right now, new bulbs are in the post.....)

we cannot see what kind of bulb is under the dome.
It may a compact uvb?? or is the one in the left picture the bulb that is under the dome then?

I know, I complimented him on being one of the people to actually TRY at chameleons, instead of letting them waste away too afraid to ask. It wasn't meant mean, just assumed mean.

Ok ill go get him one of those lights tomorrow! I wish the pet store would have told me that. This is my first reptile ever. I just want him to be happy and healthy. Im really trying to do right by him. Now im so attached I dont know what ide do without him.

we are here to help and get you on the right track. I am glad you are going to get him the correct lighting as it is a critical part of their care. Unfortunately, the pet stores more often than not give out the wrong info to the unsuspecting new owners. You are not the first it has happened to.

Thank god you're one of the good guys. I hate those cruel bstrds who buy them just to brag they have an exotic, then don't even look up anything about them, then wonder why they die. High five!

Lol im a 46 year old mother of three grown sons. I dont know that ive ever worried so much about a creature in my life!

I remember hearing about a store who convinced someone to buy 3 chams because they were "better with friends", sold them plenty of extra crap they did NOT need, etc.

If only kids were as quiet as chameleons! Trust me.. I've babysat PLENTY, quite possibly the most hyper and obnoxious kid on earth.. luckily she along with her best friend (both our neighbors) have a crush on my brother.

can you post some more ictures of him with all of his limbs? If he has been deprived of uvb and d3, he may have a condition called metabolic bone disease, as falling off of his branches could be a sign. From the pic you posted, his front legs do not look bad but it would be helpful to see some other pictures.

where are you located in Indiana???? I am visiting in Indiana right now, but live in Florida. Just curious and yes you will worry about these animals like no other. Don't ask me why, but it is just the way it is!! lol

Carol I thought it was the best bulb the store had. A guy there always helps me and told me that it was the one I needed. I saw tube lights too but he said I needed this one and he has chams himself. Raises them! So I figured he knew what he was talking about.

Kinda curious what your misting schedule is? Also if you could post a pic of his most current urate? If it is still orange there are a few things you could do.

Hornworms + silkworms do help hydrate some and have been known to be a cham's new favorite treat!

Showers where you place a plant in the shower tub, aim the shower head so it bounces off the wall and nothing directly hits the cham while he hangs around in the plant.

Depending on how severely he is dehydrated, vet visits + eye dropper and water helps. For a bit I was doing about a shower a day for my meller's when he came home with me to help perk him up a bit.
