poo at night?

has anyone else ever noticed the strong smell of chameleons poo at night? about every week or so i notice the strong smell of a fresh chameleon poo and it only seems to happen at night. i have yet to hear the sound of a thud on the floor of the cage and have not been able to find the steamer using my flash light. does anyone have a reason for this or noticed this with their chameleons?

i better get them all checked then just incase. so i might as well get a microscope. anyone ever do this at home? and i wish it tasted like chocolate Murtasma. lol

Get a microscope, supplies and some books to ID. It'll cost you the price of three fecals depending on the scope.

It will tell you if you can treat or need to see a vet. You might do the first couple and have the vet confirm if you're just getting started so you build confidence.

There are a couple recent threads that list everything you'll need.

I would suggest doing the first one with a vet, or at least get help from someone who knows what they're doing. From what I've heard and read, IDing parasites is not easy.

I'm surprised nobody has pointed this out yet... but chameleons don't poo once their lights are off and they are asleep. Are you sure the smell is chameleon poops? You said you can't hear the feces drop or find them with a flashlight.

Perhaps you are smelling something else? Rotten roots from the plants? Mold? Dead crickets/feeders? Other pets?

I didn't notice he hadn't seen it. I have an animal I got at the show that I found coccidia in and he pooped at night for the first three nights. Everyone is right generally their poo doesn't smell unless there's parasites or some animals react to worms with smelly runny poop. I've experienced this many times in different chams.

Ah yes! I'd be remiss if I didn't say that getting a fecal done by a qualified veterinarian is the proper thing to do. It's the fantasic way to start a proper medical history with your animal. I'm just surprised at the "night poos"?!?

Happy chamming,
