I think this is fairly normal but don't know why this happens...and would like to know. When my gorgeous veiled chameleon, Penelope, poops it is normal brown/green color but then there is also a small bright yellow peice, what is this? Is it normal? Is she safe/healthy? I know yellow poop can be a sign of dehydration but its not here entire poop but rather just a small piece!? Just check that she's alright
thanks

P.s...my phone will not allow me to attach the picture I took earlier.

There are two parts to the poop. The brown part is the poop and the lighter part that you are describing is the urate or the pee. Their pee is solid. The yellow you are describing should ideally be white. Yellow is not horrible, but he could use a little more water. Sometimes it could be orange which is the worst scenario for the urate. Do you feed your cham green veggies or does he eat plants? I was just wondering because you said it was green.

Yes, that is a normal part of lizard defecation. It is a urate excretion similar to urine, but highly concentrated. In this way reptiles have adapted to live in conditions where water can be very scarce at times. One note though is that ideally it should be more of a whitish color with some yellow. If this is very yellow in color it could mean the chameleon is somewhat dehydrated. Hope that helps! ;))

This is actually what i figured thanks! Idk how to make her drink more sometimes if i feel she needs to drink ill feed her meal worms in a tiny bit of water so she gets water too! But she hates being misted LoL she hides under her leaves when i mist the cage then comes back out when im done. I also have a warm humidifier that runs almost all the time and I have a dripper at all times! Any suggestions?

Oh and I only said "brown/green" because occasionally it has a very slight tint but it's brown no worries there. She doesnt eat the plant that i know of and i only feed her live crickets and worms, but i do gutload my crickets with carrots and spinach usually.

....sorry wrong person!...but yes thank you for ur information

...sorry I quoted the wrong person in my last response

My chameleons don't usually drink from misting either, so I rely on drippers. Sometimes I will follow them around the cage with the dripper over their head to get them to drink. Dripping water on their nose seems to do the trick to get them drink. It might take a couple of minutes to get them to respond, but it usually works. If you can leave the dripper running, when you are not home that is a good idea also as long as you have a way to drain the water off.

I do all of this so I'd say I am doing the best I can for her then:eek:
If she is dehydrated it's not extreme because I was just looking at pictures of poop LoL and its not that off color
