Well we were out shopping for other assorted gear for what we have and saw a Veiled Chameleon. Looked descent until we saw her try to climb. Controlled movement wasn't there. Her aim is almost non-exsistent when moving her limbs - she looks like she wants to climb herself - but the grip of her "hands" is there just no muscle.
The pet store said that she was a healthy eater, her color is great, she moves around as much as he can, but falls often due to his lack of coordination. We're assuming that she's got MBD and so we're gut loading her crickets, and dusting them with calcium (but not sure if he can actually catch them) and have her in a cage with plenty of plants and vines going down gradually to the bottom to prevent his falls.
What we're wondering is if she still has a chance of a good life. We have an appointment at the vet but it's a ways away, we're wanting to know if there is anything we can do for him in the meantime. Will her muscles adapt to the bone deformation? Is she bound to be a ground dweller for the rest of her life? Would slower-moving mealworms be better for her?
We've perused through the other posts but there are so many we decided to ask the question directly instead... Thanks for your help! (we've attached a picture of the Veiled Chameleon, and a picture of his enclosure).
Cool area of wire-mesh cage: 70 F.
Basking area: 85 F.
Humdity: 30-40% (the enclosure is still newish)
Approx. age: 5-6 months
Light: Full spectrum (UVA/UVB)
Substrate: Eco-earth
