Possible MDB Case

Well we were out shopping for other assorted gear for what we have and saw a Veiled Chameleon. Looked descent until we saw her try to climb. Controlled movement wasn't there. Her aim is almost non-exsistent when moving her limbs - she looks like she wants to climb herself - but the grip of her "hands" is there just no muscle.

The pet store said that she was a healthy eater, her color is great, she moves around as much as he can, but falls often due to his lack of coordination. We're assuming that she's got MBD and so we're gut loading her crickets, and dusting them with calcium (but not sure if he can actually catch them) and have her in a cage with plenty of plants and vines going down gradually to the bottom to prevent his falls.

What we're wondering is if she still has a chance of a good life. We have an appointment at the vet but it's a ways away, we're wanting to know if there is anything we can do for him in the meantime. Will her muscles adapt to the bone deformation? Is she bound to be a ground dweller for the rest of her life? Would slower-moving mealworms be better for her?

We've perused through the other posts but there are so many we decided to ask the question directly instead... Thanks for your help! (we've attached a picture of the Veiled Chameleon, and a picture of his enclosure).

Cool area of wire-mesh cage: 70 F.
Basking area: 85 F.
Humdity: 30-40% (the enclosure is still newish)
Approx. age: 5-6 months
Light: Full spectrum (UVA/UVB)
Substrate: Eco-earth

keep in mind im not very experienced, and that pic is pretty small..but the from seeing the legs it looks like, yeah, he has MBD and pretty severe

Yeah even with the small pic that is for sure MBD . You should definitely put feeders in a cup dusted with calcium close to him and get him to a vet to get evaluated and to learn more about what you can do but more importantly how you can make life better for your cham even in this condition.
Also there should be little(cage carpet/paper towels) if no substrate and the basking spot temp is too high. it should be lower around 80-85 and also your uvb light should be a linear reptisun 5.0 or reptiglow 5.0 would be fine.

Your chameleon needs a good vet that knows chameleons ASAP for liquid calcium and an injection to draw the calcium to the bones. It you act on this right away he will probably still have bent limbs BUT can still live a good life. Where do you live? Maybe someone here can recommend a good chameleon vet.

Needs uv and calcium quickly with water intake

Hi i would take this guy in to see vet he needs some calcium and water intake and i mean right now his chances of living will be better if he is looked at by a vet! If you cant take him in start misting him with calcium water and drip some into his mouth:) with a dripper the eye droper will work till you get him to vet. Water is important because if he gets to dry he wont last long. Good luck and do your best!

yeah i have an appointment tomorrow so shots will be a definite. This is why i hate going to the pet stores and finding this. They will hire anybody now adays. that is the only reason i snagged her up. SHe hopefully will make he best of what she can do with.

freakmagic, maybe you could post your general location so board members can make recommendations. I'm sure they'll be able to point you to vets that will understand that this is an emergency and an appointment is needed now.

Thank you for taking this animal into your lives.

is it a male or female because your decribing it as a him and a her in your posts and the pic wont cum up for me for sum reason and he/she needs go vets if he/she as mbd
