Power outage.. What to do???

So i'm out here in the sticks of good ole North Caruhlinuh, and we got some winter weather bs going on! We have a good possibility of losing power and am wondering.. What's the best thing to do in order to keep my lil buddy alive? Obviously i'll keep em near the fire during the day, but what about at night time? I have a few heat warming packets but those wont last for so long, any other remedies? I know chams can withstand cold temps but certainly not 40 degrees or less..

I live in the north and have lots of power outages. I keep a styrofoam box with a stick, a couple heat packs, a spray bottle with water. When the power goes off put your Cham in the box. If you need a heat pack get one out and use it. If you keep all those items in the box, then when you empty it to put your Cham in, you know where everything is to keep him comfortable for a couple days. The water is so he can have a drink, but do not spray into the box. That may chill your Cham.

You could also heat some water on the fire and fill water bottles and nest them next to the outside of the box. Tuck a towel over it all, but check for overheating. You don't need to keep everything up to day temps, just modify night temp to upper 40s or 50. The box will slow down the heat loss anyway and all he'll do while its cold is sleep.

I guess those of us living up here view winter weather power problems almost a normal part of life. Don't trust the local utility too far and always have a backup for heat! Any old fashioned wood stove means you and the pets stay warm, everyone has water and food, and you won't need anyone to fix broken water pipes later on. Of course it takes special strength of character not to break open the emergency chocolate bars too soon. I don't happen to have that strength

I'm up in New England. During the 2008 ice storm, we lost power for a week and I lost $5,000 worth of livestock in my reef tank. That's when I decided to invest in a generator...

Summer or winter can be a problem here. A generator was the best 1k I ever spent. I also always try to keep two 5 gallon gas can full for it.

This is exactly what I do too
Just make sure to put a few holes in the box for ventilation.

Several years ago, when I had leo's, we had a power out on the coldest day
of winter. I was NOT properly prepaired, so we took 7 leo's to bed with us
to keep them warm with our body heat! needless to say, we didnt get any
sleep, for fear of rolling over and squashing the little guyz

After that, I made a plan and stocked up on heat packs

The styrofoam box does do a great job retaining heat. I also filled plastic containers with boiling water and put it in there as warmers. I boiled water every day and replaced them every day. We have town water and a gas stove, so fortunately, we always have running water and a working stove during outages. With me, it was the lack of water flow for a week that killed my corals

Here in the low country they have freezing rain... 150k+ without power as of now. Where I'm at, we are having 'downpours' of sleet.

I've taken my python to bed before. In winter when I need crix from the pet store in Juneau they have to be flown over here. The pilot has kindly offered to keep the box warm by putting it inside his coat. His passengers probably wondered why their pilot was chirping.
