Prepping to get my first chameleon

Setup is now 100% done -- I added the umbrella plant and took out the fake Pothos, it is now 100% live plants. Shipment tracking says the cham may be a day late due to the shipper giving them the package after the cut-off time for overnight shipping, which is a bummer. Hoping he shows up today.

Talked to FL Chams, said UPS dropped the ball with the overnight shipping with a few of the shipments that went out with mine. Hoping to recover shipping charges. Bummer

I hate UPS. Tracking updates at New Stanton PA yesterday and then no updates for 18 hours. It finally updates at Pittsburgh PA, I assumed it was maybe headed to an airport since I am east of New Stanton and Pittsburgh is northwest of New Stranton, basically opposite direction. 4 hours later tracking updates again and its BACK at New Stranton PA. Tracking says delivery will not be until Monday. Really hope some magic happens and it gets to me tomorrow, poor thing would be stuck in a box for 4 days. Shipping method is Next Day Air, you would think they would make an effort to not go beyond 1 day late, let alone 3.

I know you know this but your Cham will be VERY dehydrated when you get him, if not worse. I’d bring a spray bottle with me when you go to pick him up so you can at least attempt to get him rehydrated as soon as you open the box. And UPS would DEFINITELY be refunding all the shipping charges.

Good luck, keep us posted!

Thanks for the input, yeah I am going to take off work Monday so I can get to him immediately. I took off Friday when I was planning on getting him so I could monitor him for 3 days. UPS is killing me, messed up everything.

Ow, thoughts with you and your new cham, I hope he's okay poor buddy.

Be ready to open the box ASAP and get him some water.

Keep us posted

FedEx is no better. I bought a male nosy be about a month ago and FedEX shipped him to the wrong location, I was pissed! Had to drive an extra hour to pick him up to avoid them re-shipping him. I know how your feeling right now...

Latest addition, made a cricket/dubia roach feeder. I am going to use the cut-out plastic as a wall to prevent crickets from jumping out once they are placed in the container. Once they settle down I will move it out so the cham can eat. Plastic is smooth all around and the screen has no sharp edges. I may drill holes in the bottom if I notice water collecting from the mister.

The soonest i can get him is via home delivery by 10:30 am Monday. I have a spray bottle and gutloaded feeders ready.
You might call the help desk & see what distribution center he's going through or local sorting center...If it's close they will hold & you can pick up there. I had to do this with my tortoise as the label got smudged & the zip was difficult to read. I drove an hour & picked him up otherwise it would be the next day...

With it being Saturday night i am assuming the next stop is the UPS location where it will be delivered from. Tracking currently says 'by 10:30am Monday', I could possibly slice off a few hours by picking him up. Once it updates I'll see if i can work something out

@RyanBRZ SO sorry to hear about the shipping issues! That is very scary! I ordered from FLChams and didn't have issues. I also got a juvi 3-4 months old and he was eating small crickets no problem. I highly recommend gutloading and having those ready with all the other feeders you seem to have ready too. Definitely use the fatty worms sparingly as your cham can fatten up quick or get "addicted" to those and refuse some of the more nutritious feeders. Keep us updated!!
Sorry I've been MIA - started a "coding bootcamp" and getting my butt kicked in school lately. I'll be around when I can!!

Get a uvb light; tube preferably and a heat bulb aim for live plants. You’ll learn as you go as long as you understand the basics, you’ll be fine. Best of luck
Ps. Ditch the ceramic bulb
