I have read that animal protein is bad for chams. I was considering making a gutload using something like chicken mash. The bag says crude protein. Does anyone know what the deal is with this? Thanks.

Animal protein can cause high uric acid and develop gout in chams.

Best to stay away from it. People used to add ground dry dog or cat food to their gutload untill they learned better.

When you say plant protein are you saying feed the bugs plants? I know this is common and I'll probably do it. I'm trying to see if I can find something dry to use. The powdered milk is good but isn't than animal protein?

Spirulina is a good source of protein to ad to your gutload.
I know there are other things, maybe brewers yeast?

You could pop Sandra a PM and ask her, she is our resident nutritionist :)
