I really want a puppy :( but all my hard work to break Jared down to get me one has failed :(

I'm running out of ideas lol

I know:) I tried telling him that lol.
He agrees but he still won't give in!! he likes making things difficult haha

You can do what I do sometimes, just show up with one and say you found it on the street or something. A lil mud goes along way :p. You know once someone see a puppy and holds it there is no giving it back :D

Hahaha that could work, but then I'd have to get a different kind of puppy then I really really want haha. But the shelter has deals this time of year it would be easy to talk him into it if I could get him there. Its talking my mom into letting me keep it...lol

I work ( well, volunteer) at a shelter every Thursday( 67 dogs, and 112 cats) , and also work w/ the H/S - if you are going to get a dog, the shelters are the BEST :D 1/2 the dogs in there are other peoples last yr Christmas gift =(
I think that is great you are looking at shelter dogs :D

I would love to volunteer with the puppies at the shelter, but I get really crappy when they try to kill them so I'd get fired.

I wanna get one :)

I only work at NO KILL - I worked for a whole 2 hrs at a kill shelter when I was 20 - I asked the people there how could they bear the thought of putting puppies to sleep - they said " you get cold to them, and get used to it" I told them " well, I dont want to get "cold to them" - and I walked out the door - but sad to say - there are more kill shelters then not- do not ever watch " one nation under DOG" - its a doc/ film on kill shelters - but do try to adopt from one- it will save a life :)

I took a kitten to a shelter because I'm allergic and found the poor dear in the woods. I refused to check the "agree that you can slaughter this animal box" and the lady checked it after I signed. It was a big deal cuz I said I'm not okay with that and she said well its not your concern now. I was pissed and they wouldn't let me take him back. I called 24 hours later, they had killed him.

That's part of why I had wanted to try the Eden alternative thing in my "I want to change the world" thread. It saves the elderly and the homeless animals.

That's horrid. I found this little kitten last year and he was the most adorable thing in the world he was short haired and black. He would tic like twitch (I know it isn't normal but it was pretty cute) so my step sister and I named him Skitz because he would twitch and I was able to keep him for two days but was crushed when I had to give him away. My mom made me take him to the vet and I don't know what they did with him. (Sorry to change the subject. lol)

that sounds a little fast- but if he was ill, like feline leukemia or along those lines, they will pts so they do not spread it- but normally animals are held at least 14 days - but not always - but dont blame them- the blame lies on the irresponsible people who do not have their pets spayed / neutered - I have a kitten right now I am bottle feeding- I have no idea why a cat would have a kitten this time of yr ?? - but anyway, they called and I have had him about 9 days, he is 3 weeks old now- how bout a Christmas kitty ;)

Can't :( allergic haha. And Jared would say hell no lol

As much as I love puppies, they are way too much work for me! I prefer a nice adult dog. I actually got my corgi/dachshund mix from my local SPCA and I love her to death. Definitely get a dog from a shelter!

It's really sad. A lot of puppies and older dogs get put to sleep for no other reason except that there is an overpopulation of dogs and cats. I really dont like kill shelters, but no-kill shelters bother me too. It's just so unfortunate that because they can only take on so many animals, they have to send away ones they can't take in. If only people would get their cat and dogs fixed and take them to a shelter when they can't care for them anymore instead of trying to make a quick buck, showing their kids the "miracle of life," or setting unwanted pets free to roam on the streets.

Oooh! I bet her legs are stumpy he he that's my zoey corgis nick name :)
Shelters bug me in general bc so many animals get turned away or killed and most shelters aren't clean enough (I'm a clean freak). My corgi will be spayed like Stumpy is :) the miracle of life can wait a while lol. Even not having animals spayed/neutered wouldn't be bad if people were responsible you know?

YAY :D glad you chose a shelter dog - and I agree with you, both types of shelters have their ups and downs - it is hard to turn away animals - and as for the "miracle of life" - you are also correct- many let their pets breed for that reason- but the stupid parents then need to take the kids to the shelter to see the "reality of death" this type of breeding causes - all we can do is try to help spread the word - ADOPT, DONT SHOP , and SPAY :D

A home is just not a home without dogs, in my opinion. My boyfriend and I have no interest in kids so our dogs are literally our "child alternatives" lol He is looking into adding a third dog to our home but hasn't decided on the breed yet. I have two blue merle Shetland sheepdogs who I adore.

Puppies are a lot of work though, and you pretty much want to kill them a dozen times throughout every day of their first year or so, but I also like raising my dogs. I know who they are, what issues they have or don't have, and I have no one to blame for misbehavior but myself! Lol I must admit, it's why I got mine from a reputable breeder, because I have a guarantee that as far back as her records go, no one has had eye issues, skin issues, joint issues, or any other health issues, and I like that. My first pup 10 years ago was a shelter pup and died a week later.
