Purchased Blaptica Dubai Colony

I just purchased 600 Dubai (1/8-5/8") nymphs along with 20 Male and 20 Female adults. I'm excited to get this colony going and never having to worry about crickets again.

Should I house the 600 nymphs in a separate Rubbermaid and let the adults do their thing? I've read that the female will have roughly 30 live babies every 25 days or so. Is this correct?

well I must ask... where in the country did you get these from? I thought we couldn't get roaches up here

I have roaches too, we can get them here, it's just that they're kind of taboo, a bit of a gray area too so people don't advertise them. I got mine at an expo, and selling them there was illegal. You pretty much just have to luck out and find someone stupid enough to have them up for sale and/or advertise them.

I ordered mine online from the states. They'll be here sometime next week. They are staying outside in the shed with the chameleons though lol.

I wanted to put mine outside... But the girlfriend said that if I kept them in the house she would never come over... So they are in the reptile room! :D hahaha... But really, they are alot more 'chill' than your normal roach, I dont see them getting out of the little tub that I made for them.

Ah ok... do you have a link to where you ordered from? or was it a personal type deal with someone you know down there?

Don't forget my story from awhile back.....I did have a male dubia escape and make it's way to the bedroom where it flew (a least 15 feet) across the room onto our bed.
If you remember....I quickly scooped it up and said it was a moth!
Just make sure you have a secure lid.
The males get rather active at night and can flutter up to the top of the enclosure. It has only happened to me once, but that was enough.

I put the type of lid on my that locks onto the tubs lip just because of that story... If one of them damn things fluttered onto my bed in the night I probably would knock myself out running into a wall. :)

Yeah, I had a male dubia take off out of the kitchen and make it's way across the living room late one evening
At the time, I thought I was just seeing things and kept watching the movie on TV.

About 30 seconds later, the damn flying blur came back and landed on the couch right next to my arm
stayed there for a second, then made it's way around to the other side
of the cushion my arm was currently resting on.

As I pondered the philosophical ramifications of this new revelation (they were advertised as being "unflyable")
When the damn thing took off again to make it's way down the hallway and into the bathroom,
this time, with myself in a close chase.
As I tuned on the bathroom lights, I looked down to see this 3" long roach sitting on the toiletseat re-arranging it's wings nice and neatly.

He raised his antennae as if to look at me and say:
" Oh it's you... turn the lights off again... can't you see, I'm busy... - you butthole."

Hummmmm...
Well, guess who got to meet my sambava the next morning?

My dubias still haven't had babies. Do the females get striped when they get pregnant? I hope to be expecting.
The turkistan roaches that got away from me and the cham have possibly been reproducing rampantly. I live above the landlord and suddenly there is an insecticide spray bottle in the laundry room below me. He lives below me too.
I told him to warn me if he intends to spray anything in the area so I can evacuate my chams.
Love the Dubia stories. Did you know there is a roach forum?

Don't count the crickets out, yet.
Not all chameleons will like Dubia roaches. and the one that like them will sometimes get tired of them and go back to eating crix. :)

if u change the gutload when they get sick of em i would think the flavor changes. i do that with my feeders, i change up the gutload once a month so he never gets sick of the feeders.

Gosh, I got Hissers at the local pet store. Granted, they werent on display, the guys there just know I like bugs and told me about them. And I just gave away half my colony - hope that wasnt illegal.

Next time I have too many, maybe I could mail some to you?

I recently got some Turkistan roaches off the internet, usedeverywhere.com
