Well my Blue barr Ambilobe's have gotten to it, if you know what mean, so my question,is she used to be a light pink color, and sometimes shed be a dark purply/gray and now she that color all the time but a bit darker, but she still retains her pink color every once in a while, so i guess my question.. is that normal, for her to be dark and sometimes bring out her normal colors? ill post some pics of my beauties. does it sound like shes gravid? and Also id like to know how my set up is for my baby, and do you think its adequate for Egg depositing

She is showing gravid colors in the picture but you could try showing her to the male and see what she does. If she hisses and immediatly turns dark that means she is rejected the male and you can count on it that she is gravid. I personally use the trash can method for egg laying, but if you have a large enough container in her cage that should be fine too. Also remember the soil in that container needs to be wet enough to tunnel, but not too wet or the female will not want to lay.

Yeah, she was pretty much an unhappy critter when she saw him. She was angry for like 2 days and it wasn't even on purpose, she started hissing at us, which is weird for her. She did have a plant until we took this pic. We are trying to figure out something to put in there I like the vine plants at least for now, but I don't know where we got them. My boyfriend put up the original post, sorry if this confuses anyone. Thanks for the advice, I had no idea why she was changing her colors so drastically. I am glad to hear that you think she is gravid. I was about 75% positive. Her moodiness threw me off I guess. But I love her and I can't wait to get her beautiful babies.
How does eveyone feel about Hatch Rite as an incubating substrate? I am a first time egg keeper so I am looking for a sure way to keep the eggs safe.

Gravid Girl......

Your girl is a real beauty :) It sounds like she is indeed gravid. Ditto on getting rid of that compact flourescent bulb you have. Get a Reptisun 5.0 tube light ASAP. I use the Hatchrite. I just bought a bulk shipment of it because I like it so much. I switched some of my eggs that were in perlite over to that. It says you don't need to add water but I add just a little bit. It also dries out in the bag after you open it.

yikes! definitely more foliage... he needs some hiding place.
try to get real plants. Check the list of which to buy in this forum

Personally i prefer playsand for their egg laying...it seems to stay in better shape for no tunnel colapse and they seem to be able to move it around easier. Needs to be damp though.

There are so many options.

Whats wrong with the compacts? Is it just a preference? She usually does have a real plant, there is just no room with the pot of soil....soon to be playsand in the cage. Any advice on how to rectify that? It's been plaguing me. I will definitely use hatch rite...

lights?

ok.... so after reading that nice indepth look at lights... i still have no idea what just happened...

whats the difference between the compacts and tube style UVB lights, theyre both 5.0 UVB's and if they are made from the same manufacturer wouldnt that just be redundant to by the exact same product.

Thanks for the site, i had no idea about that, the problem with the eyes is serious.

any more concrete information on lights that DONT cause this problem,

thanks a ton

TSIshinobi said..."whats the difference between the compacts and tube style UVB lights, theyre both 5.0 UVB's and if they are made from the same manufacturer wouldnt that just be redundant to by the exact same product"...the phosphor used in the compacts and some of the tube lights is different and the bulbs that are using it generate wavelengths of UVB that are in a different range than the chameleon should have and they can cause photo-kerato-conjunctivitis.

thank you! thats a way better explaination than the text book i just read, so the tube lights use a different phosphor

so i am going to look into getting a reptisun 5.0 tube light for each of my meeleons? is this what most people are using? if i knew about the compact bulbs before i would have never bought them

THANK GOD FOR CHAMMY FORUMS!

Some of the tube lights cause the problem too....I don't think that the repti-sun 5.0's do though. I haven't had to use a new one for a while...but I will soon. The (old) ones I've been using up to now haven't caused any problems though.

The fist picture I see at the top of your post shows some very dark to black lines across the top of her head. Was this just camera shot or is that color there all the time?

To tell you the truth her colors have been all over the place since we bred her about 2 1/2 weeks ago. Before that, no. She was always light pink. Should I be concerned?

That's actually the whole reason of the post, she is a new color practically everyday, but generally on the darker side like that for the last few weeks. Thanks for your advice.
