Quick hello

Hello members .. I am a beardie owner and have moved my interests to a more exotic (as I see it) and perhaps more interesting animal to care for ..
I have a glass case made by exo terra that Shelia used to live in which is 45 x 45 x 60 cm / 18” x 18” x 24” (WxDxH) .. I have a ficus retusa ready for the case as well as a small waterfall and a little dripper .. I also have a few plastic vines and some plastic leaves which are as a bunch of leaves.. I also have the usual extras as a digital therometor and hygrometer, uvb reptiglow lamps and a basking lamp .. I also have still on the underneath of the case a heat pad ..
I do not have substrate as I have read countless times not to use this, so a carpet may be in order, untill I find drainage problems, which I have also read about .. BUT could I use sand at the bottom to soke up water and aid to humidity, and moss on top of that ?? ..
So yes hello everybody and hope to speak to members here for any advice I may be able to give, as well as advice I could do with if I encounter problems ..

first off hello and welcome to the fourms.

a couple things i would concider, i would not use the waterfall for many reasons but mostly they are way to hard to keep proporly clean, also i would loos the heating pad, chams register their heat from above and use the lower parts of thier enviornment to achive a cooler area. a basking light from above is used to achive heat as the sun would in nature.
being in england the terrarium u have will work well but for an adult cham may get too small quickly. for the bottom as u said i would not use any substraight. as for humidity you wont have a problem with the terrarium maintaining humidity, i use one for my babies for that reason, but if you would like to use something on the bottom i suggest a natural indoor ourdoor carpet, i use them to help with pooling water and easy clean up.
i will go find a great blog for new keepers by one of our members and attach it here https://www.chameleonforums.com/blo...-keepers-young-veiled-panther-chameleons.html
do you know what type of cham you are going to get? and how old?

hope this helps
hoj

Yeah it seem silly but I will find out what species on friday when i pick the "baby" up .. .. The heat pad wont be turned on then, but it is stuck to the bottom as it is .. . Well thats put any doubt in my mind to ease by just not really using the waterfall .. .. So soon I will have a spare case again when this baby gets to big like my beardie did, and perhaps a gecko or two will do fine in there as frogs are a little out of my price range .. Thanks for the link here too, as I didnt see it before ..

Welcome to the forum. There are many helpful members here to give you suggestions and advice. I would suggest getting a screened enclosure when you can. This may be more of an urgent matter depending on the species. Substrate is not recommended, and neither is a waterfall. Manual or automatic misting is the way to go. Hope this helps a bit, and if possible post a pick of the enclosure for some more suggestions

u people need to stop bashing glass, it works just FINE, and my even be benificial seeing as the op is in england

I like glass. in fact, im prob getting one for my hoe when he comes in a fwe weeks from showjet.

The pet shop has told me two weeks now as the babies are in his opinion to small and young at the moment .. :( . Fair enough I guess . I will be looking at a screen enclosure once this one gets to big for the small case I have .. But with live plants only in there I am getting between 70% and 80% humidity with the basking lamp off at mid day, also thats not in direct sunlight. I will post a pic as soon as I can skittles ..

I use photobucket- free image hosting. make an account there upload the pictures. There will be an image code copy paste here. You also have to option to resize the pictures on there too. I am sure there are other ways this is ust easier for me :)

Thanks for the extra link there .. I am splitting them up very soon, this picture is at home ...
But I am back on here for advice . The smaller guy has a problem.. He seems slow and has a slower growth than the other guy who has already shed skin . He only ever opens one eye and I have seen him move his eye under his eye lid which bulges ??? I have also observed him rub his eye against leaves .. I have seen him eat a small fly that was in the case during this time, so he can still get around a little and seek out food, but just not much, but I have not seen him eat any free range crickets I have in the case.. A trip to a vet that has decent knoledge of Chams is in order, but finding one is hard .. Does anyone know please that catches this message why he keeps an eye closed, and what possible infection (which I should say he has no redness, and also no swelling, untill he seems to make it bulge) or injury the little feller may have xxxxxxxx
