R.I.P. Amy

i figured i'd do her one proper..

i got my little Amy back in July. she was about 4-6 weeks old when i got her and the cutest little thing i've ever seen! i quickly fell in love with the little girl. i went away and left her with a sitter 2 weeks back. came back last monday on 8/8 and got her late that night. tuesday morning, i went to turn on the light and it wasn't on and she was in a bad condition with her eyes staying shut and her not wanting to move around. took her to the vet, they said i was doing the right thing.. she kept getting worse though and i came home from work early yesterday and took her to the vet. the vet decided to keep her to try to stabilize her. she took a turn for the worst a couple hours after i dropped her off. the vet called me up and asked what i wanted to do. i decided it would be best to put her down to keep her from suffering anymore. they told me they were going to be doing an autopsy and would let me know.

i got a call from them today and they told me that there was some weed in her system that shut everything down. i found out a few days before the sitter smokes all the time (with a <6month old baby in the apartment).

anyways, they asked me what i wanted to do with Amy and her remains. we're going to be cremating her and scattering her ashes on Mt Rainier. I miss her greatly but i'm happy she's not suffering anymore. i miss her greatly

that's what the autopsy showed apparently... i've tried talking to the guy since and he won't respond.. i have no idea how she got it or anything... kinda boggles my mind.

Awww, such a sad story. My last female was called Amy too. The girly chams are so sweet. I know how hard it is to lose a much loved chameleon.

Could the sitter have been trying to get her high?? It just crossed my mind while I was talking to my mom.

I've heard of people getting pets high and drunk. It's really sad, but it happens.

For the dr finding the cannabis in her system, did you tell him that the sitter was smoking? I'm just curious how he found it, whether it was a drug test or if she maybe ate some?

i'm assuming she may have eaten some... i didn't tell the vet anything about it to be honest.. i forgot when i would talk to the vet about her.. i suppose it's possible but the guy isn't responding to me.

i do plan on getting another cham in the near future though and will NEVER let that guy near her.

It does sound strange, pretty sure drug tests aren't a standard procedure when chameleons are treated.

I am a bit confused. Did she have it in her blood or had she eaten some? Either way that is just horrible to think that someone would do such a thing to any animal, let alone someone else's. I'm so sorry!

so.. due to everyone's questions, i decided to call back and ask. apparently they had fed her some of it and she wasn't able to digest it well enough.. swelled up her kidneys really big (that was the upset tummy that was mentioned in the last thread) and the liver went too...
