R.O./D.I.

So just bought a R.O./D.I. water system, and now I'm reading that deionized water is so pure that bacteria forms almost immediately. So what are your thoughts did I waste money on the deionized part of this system? Should I not use it???? Any help would be appreciated.

DI water should not be necessary. Unless you use products such as RO Right, it will sap the minerals out of your chameleon. We can't drink it and neither should they.

Yah that's what I'm thinking why take the chance. Know anybody who needs a D.I. filter? Anyone with an saltwater aquarium maybe lol

I use the DI portion of my filter for saltwater tanks. Generally not necessary for fish only set ups, but if you are doing a reef tank with live coral it is very helpful.

If you are supplementing your chameleon with minerals correctly and gutloading your feeder insects I really doubt DI water will "sap the minerals right out of your cham". Consider that they are licking water than has run off of leaves or other surfaces. However, RO water is fine to use...been using it for many years and do not have animals with mineral deficiencies.

DI and RO are ways to remove minerals and salts from water, so is distillation. Making the water closer to pure H2O. Distillation is natures way of purifying water: evaporation, condensation, it's called rain. If the air isn't polluted rain water is close to pure water. As far As I know chameleons have been drinking it for many years without deleterious side affects.
