receptive cycles

So I imagine that female chams like female humans run their cycles (no offense to anyone intended). If they do, what are the signs?

In humans, when ovulation occurs: there are changes in fluid retention, mood, internal temp, and some skin and hair appearance.

Since we unable to objectively measure mood and other appearance things, has anyone kept an accurrate record of their chams weight or temp and correlated this to their chams being receptive....?

Any Thoughts

Female chameleons do not necessarily have menstrual cycles like women but ovulation takes place in both. Women only produce one egg a month while female chams produce a clutch of unfertilized eggs a couple of times a year.

Hope that helps.

thanks for the reply, I do understand that there is difference between humans and chams. I also understand that the cycles may not be monthly. But there is a period time when it is ideal to expose chams to each other.

And there in lies the question. Are there Objective measure that can be made to establish if a cham is receptive?

Thanks

The easiest way to tell if they are receptive is to show the female to a male. If she turns dark almost black with mustard and blue spots she's non-receptive or gravid. If she remains the normal color in the background and doesn't show any signs of aggression when she can see the male then she's receptive.

Yep, my female was mated today and that is exactly what happened. Lucille and Socrates, the beautiful male of glittergloomgirl and Chris paid a visit to my home and had a date.

yup, I knew the exposure one. But I was just thinking that there may be some earlier signs ( changes in weight, or core body temp) that would let you know that she is ready?

And if they mate it isn't sure you will have eggs from that mating. I did mate mine and she didn't make any eggs, except maybe she resorbed them, probably one left, but I will explain that in new thread.

Im a new time owner of a female veiled cham i haven't seen her lay nor her previous owner and she is a 1yr and a couple months

Welcome to the forum!

Do you have a lay bin in her cage for her....she's definitely full of eggs. I hope she's not eggbound.

How long have you had her?
How chubby was she when you got her?
How much are you feeding her per week?
What supplements do,YOUNUSE and how often for each? Please be specific...D3 or not, preformed vitamin A or prOformed? Calcium and phos?
What specific UVB light do you use? Long linear tube light or compact or what?

I use the reptivite with D3 twice a month and calcium without D3 every other day feeding feeding super worms and crickets every other day she was very small when I got her she only weighs 44 grams she is now 6061 gram and she has never been introduced to a male until now she is not mated with my male yet just introductions never seen her lay before nor her other owner has any knowledge if she had layed before

You said..."she has never been introduced to a male until now she is not mated with my male yet just introductions never seen her lay before nor her other owner has any knowledge if she had layed before"...how did she react when she saw the male? How long ago did she see the male?

Again, how much have you been feeding her in a week?

Again, what UVB light are you using? Long Inear tube light or compact or what?

Please post a photo of the lay bin and tell me what the substrate in it is please.

You said..."Not worried about breeding her atm she is starting to show receptive colors"... She's really plump and looks like she's carrying eggs to me.

You said..."her diet is ok now"...this doesn't help me know what's going on. I asked you about how much she eats in a week because that plays a big part in how big her clutch is, whether she will develop reproductive issues such a s follicular stasis or eggbinding, even MBD or a prolapse. The UVB light and supplements and temperature also all play parts inner reproductive success.

You said..."i have this going on with her the lumps vet said poop impaction but shes eating pooping and drinking temps are fine housing is fine"...did the vet do an xray some could see if she has follicles or eggs in her abdomen? To see if her organs are enlarged and might be blocking the eggs from being laid?
