Recommended Heat Bulb Wattage?

Hey everyone! I'm getting my first veiled chameleon in the next few weeks (I'm so excited! I've been reading this site and others for months and finally I'm getting one :D) and just have a quick question about his heat lamp.

So, i went to the RaisingKitty blog and know that the basking spot should be in the ballpark of 80F or higher for a younger veiled

I will be getting one of Newton's (FLchams breeder) offspring at around 3 months, according to the site. His cage will be 24"x24"x42" (custom size from www.cages.net). I intend to have the heat lamp clamped to the top of the cage (not hanging above).

So my question is: Do you have a recommendation for how many watts the heat lamp should be? I looked at some other threads and many people said different things, but that it depends on your cage size. I live in Minnesota so it is really cold at the moment and certainly don't want to under (or over) heat the poor guy

Thanks for the help and any tips are appreciated :)

play around with different wattage to get the right temp.
For example, since i live in warmer climate zone, a 50 watt bulb is good enough for me.
you might want to try 75 watt or 100 one if your area is quite cold.

I mean put directly on the top of the cage. Maybe "clamp" isn't the right word, but the description of the product says that it comes with a "clamp" for easy attachment to most cages, so I guess there's a perfectly reasonable chance that it wouldn't clamp to an all-screen enclosure. The dome I think i'm getting is:

If this is a poor choice, please tell me! I don't want to settle for less than ideal for him.
--Thank you for your concern :)

That is a clamp lamp deluxe-and the dimmer is a nice feature! I set mine on top of all my cages-so that is easy enough! Nice choice on the father-your baby should be a stunner!

Oh good! I was worried that was a mistake for a second
Whew. I'm glad it should work, though.
And thanks!--when Mike first put Newton's picture on his site, my jaw dropped!

Cage Idea

LLLReptile.com sells the same sized cage for $79.00 right now. I have 4 of their cages, and they are well built.

Cheers!!!
