Repashy Calcium plus input

AngieL are you using tap water? Is it well water? I notice you're from an 'Island' and I know most islands use well water.

Well water has caused edema in my chameleons at a reptile show I was at and all there was available for the first day was well/tap water. In just one day I noticed some very minor edema in every single one of the 40+ chameleons I had there LOL. I grabbed some Aquafina the next day and it went away within 3 days.

As for reptaid, nothing night & day for me either. I use it though sparingly, I think it's a good thing.

For full disclosure, Elliot gave me a bottle at no charge to try on my own chameleons several years ago.

I like what I see in the ingredients, but I am truly trained in western medicine, with just a fraction of my practice devoted to eastern medicines and herbal supplements. I cannot say that I ever believed it was Reptaid that ever made the case, but I typically still use it along with many other medications and supplements on ADR chams. Some people swear by it, and some don't. I am fairly neutral, certainly believe that it does no harm, and likely has beneficial qualities. But so far I cannot say I have never seen anything but perhaps subtle changes, nothing night or day on my end.

Sorry what's ADR stand for? :p is the amount of calcium in pheonix worms a substantial amount? How would factoring those in to the feeding work?

Clarkrw3 I told you so! :p

Thanks for updating your opinion! I think it's those posts that help the most.

mrfixit01 I think the chams which regulate themselves with food intake are the ones who do really well with Calcium Plus.

The ones who did well for me are the ones who would eat one and then go mosey around the cage, bask for a bit, stare at a leaf, go talk with flying horses only they can see (think Luna in Harry Potter) then go find another one to eat hours later when they felt like it and most of the dust wore off, some even skip 1-3 days of eating cause they feel like it.

Lol...agreed!

My bad, I guess my head was just in the zone. ADR is indeed the acronym for ain't doing right. So for example if I was at work and about to enter an exam room, a technician might tell me it's a lady with a cat who has been ADR for the past week. Usually means vague signs, nothing really specific, but not acting normally either.

A little old, but if the Cham is eating every other day, should the reptaid be administered 10 days straight? Or 10 feeding sessions? It doesn't really specify on the packaging. If anyone knows chime in please :p

Whenever I are used it on my dragons I always did the 10 days straight. Then again they were eating everyday. I have only used it on my dragons though.

Wow, I really need to check my typing before I hit submit.....I are....where did that come from...LOL

No it's treated water from the reservoir, no well water here :) it's very clean. I have thought about an RO water purifier but expensive and not sure it would make a difference. Crickets seem to set the edema off too so we try to keep to low chitin feeders and small amounts of d3 spaced out rather than a big dose.

what do you feed the crickets?

They get your dry gutload along with random fresh veg like peppers, sweet potato, butternut squash, romaine, rocket, occasional pac choi, occasional strawberry or raspberry, bug burger sometimes too. They get the same food as the locusts do but locust food is chopped differently :)

Carrots, apples and sometimes oranges. Used to use kale but found out it wasn't that good!

I bet Cham owners would love that and buy it exclusively, you should tell him to give it a try ;)

happy to report that Allen and i have been in touch, and he is willing to consider changing some specs for the cham market!! initially it will involve some blood testing on outdoor chams w/ no D3 supplementation vs. indoors on Calcium Plus, and there are certainly many other issues with vitamins and keeping ratios consistent. but i have told him that once i can shake this flu that i’ve had since Repticon i would be very happy to assist with ideas and blood draws on my own chams.

exciting times ahead! i am all too happy to help potentially contribute to something that can positively change the lives of who knows how many thousands of lizards and their owners! :):):)

Where is the "like" botton when you need it? :D

sounds like you are great gutloader :)

some kale is fine, just not a whole lot. :)

I've read that some people found a gutload really high in beta carotene was a potential cause of edema. I dont think this is your problem, since youre using all sorts of stuff.

fantastic!
thank you to you and your chams for assisting the effort too.

it may be worth considering if the ratios also need slight adjustment. It is possible that the current ratio used, and believed correct, may not be ideal for chameleons.
