Reptaid

Ryan-
Also, I am extremely disappointed to see that you bumped your ad for her in the "for sale" section. Shame on you for trying to sell a cham that you very well know is sick. Selling her is one thing, adopting her out to someone who can afford her proper vet care is another.
That's really creepy.

okay well if you read the "specialist" nearby said to increase the heat i dont think that is very professional if heat is up to 98 at the VERY top of the terrarium an she said to make the temp alot higher..... about the bump i had origionally posted that when she was fine when i bumped it i was seeing if someone would buy her that could afford this vet bill she has, that follows along with her or has a clue on how to get her back to normal that should have never happened i should have never bumped it i apologize......... everyone prior said it was easy to care for panthers i agree to that with the exception of everything a female can encounter......my male is 100% AWESOME but my female kinda screwed things up on that she made me feel different especcially if you have to take them to the vet if they are gravid or wont eat or da da da da daaaaa...... i can afford the vet but what im trying to say i dont wanna pay that much if the vet will charge me for a BS check up like i said BS when she said increase the temp alot..... she must not have all that experience in chameleons....right??? well i dont either im a first timer and im trying to learn but i know temps shouldnt be that high and i kno i need to decrease my temps (in which i have).... I SCHEUALED A VET VISIT FOR AN X RAY FECIAL EXAMINATION AND WHATEVER INJECTIONS SHE NEEDS FOR 175+ TOTAL the extra 25 is for a fecial examination..... vets are outragious in my opinion..... sorry everyone im just idk ill just stop talking....thanks

Just because someone says they are a reptile specialist doesnt mean they are cham specialist. Hope your girl is still alive

Man everyone is freaking out on you but she looks pretty healthy...actually borderline fat especially after just laying. What are you feeding her? Is your heat light normally on, bc its off in the pic? What wattage bulb is it?

I honestly think your vet is a little right. The chameleon is on the one solitary stick (which I would add more closer to the top) and it appears to be too far away from both the UVB and the heat lamp (depending on the heat lamps wattage). UVB is drastically cut down by the screen so you don't have to raise it far off the top. I think that her stomach is just having a hard time breaking down food without a good heat source, hence the lack of appetite and bloated look. She isn't showing gravid colors but I have had some lay looking like that too, I just normally feel for them and watch their actions. If she is near the top chances are she is no longer gravid and just wants to get warm. So, add some horizontal sticks closer to the top of the cage and make sure you have like a 75 watt incandescent on her for heat (is the 98 under the basking area at the stick or is it on the light?).

My 2 centimos,
Cristobal

If I were you I would try to find the origin of the parasites, be it wild caught food, a fplant you used, or whatever. I would just not feel comfortable until I figured it out. While you were at the vet I would have had a fecal done on your male as well just because although your male may seem healthy he could have parasites. I know people whos chams acted basically normal and then dropped dead outta the blue because of a parasite hitting a vital organ. Also I'm not trying to be mean but it would be wise to not to sell anyone on this forum a cham that is acting sickly, because even if you hadn't made this thread and would have sold the cham(Which I know you wouldn't have without informing the buyer of the behavior first) I'm sure whoever bought it would have taken in to the vet as soon as they got it as most people do with new chams and found out it had parasites. That would not have been go for your reputation for selling chams. It's just a good thing you found the problem so you can treat it. Good luck with her.

Those sound like gnats to me. I find them more often in hibiscus than anything else...that's the main reason I don't use those in my enclosures as often. They are a pain in the butt to get rid of, more times than not I have ended up throwing the infected plant away. Do you know what type of parasite she has? did you have a float done? When it comes to parasites cleanliness is key. You must be extra vigilant about keeping her enclosure squeaky clean to avoid re-infection. I would also have your male tested as well if you have not already. Depending on the parasite you may have to get rid of all of your plants and replace them with new ones, but again, it comes down with what she was diagnosed with. Good luck!

thanks and i hate the gnats and now magically i have fruit flies too omg !!!!!!!!!!! my female ate 7 crickets yesterday and pooped red again today????

you know i have to ask are you sexist? cause her issue isnt her problem. it was yours from the get go by not taking her to the vet. da da da daaaaaa.....gee i thought i had issues on here...you sure do take the cake... i didnt finish reading any more after this post....so forgive me if someone mentioned it...Did you happen to get your male checked out???? Recently that is...... im a second timer and am toying with a breeding project but not for another year....you didnt properly take care of your female what makes you in your wildest dreams think you can care for babies????? You should have told the vet that she has layed eggs and needs a day or two to recoup so you can adress any further problems but in the mean time can you bring in poop to be tested. i spent around that and then some on 2 seperate occasions within 3 months. put it this way i was 23 and could only pay half my rent one month. bottom line when you take on the responsibility to take care of an animal...thats what you are suposed to do TAKE CARE OF IT. they are like babies and cant do it alone...

IM DEFINATLY NOT sexist......that was pretty low and anyone in there right mind will think so too wtf do you come up with that idea......ummmmm she laid eggs 3 weeks ago if you read she is now on reptaid and is improving and i think i do take care of my pets i pretty much have the busyiest schedual ever but my animals come first i will feed and water and sit with them over doing anything.....i have school then after that i have varsity soccer then after that i have saxophone lessons than after that i have all my advanced honors classes home work on top of that i have work ummmmmm the second i wake up i care for my pets the second i come home i care for them no matter how tired i am i assure that my pets come over sleep i sat with my female till 2 in the morning waiting for her to cover those eggs so i could immediately take care of her i dont appriciate you coming on here with your bs comments yourself about me being sexist and i dont care for my animals...... ah ha and i have cared for babies before i used to get eggs from florida of gheckoes and i would hatch them and CARE for them they were barely big enough to feed fruit flies and they some how magically lived since i dont care for my pets ummmmm gheckos are pretty dam simular to baby chams as i have talked to people who do both....like i said she had perasites my male did not all is well courtney do you have mannors???? i have to ask this cuz you seem rude you dont just come out and tell some one that you have no clue who they are and ask them a rude question and say oh you dont care for your pets da da da da daaaaaaa.......happy halloween

Wile the sexist thing may have been a bit off, I think the main point Courtney was trying to say was that if you have an animal that you can't afford to take to a vet, then you should probably rethink keeping said animal until time that you can afford vet visits.

I agree with this. Seriously, "I can't afford a vet visit" is hardly good husbandry or responsible pet ownership. We all go through hard financial times, but if I couldn't afford to take my animals to the vet if need be, I would sell off some of my collection.

yeah i agree but what people read over is that i said i dont wanna pay all that money for bs i will pay money but not for someone who doesnt kno much the vet when i personally talked to her seemed like she did 20 min of research on chameleons and then repeated what she read i could do that idk any one could do that

So i just need a little clearification:
Did she go to the vet?
if no, how do you know she has parasites?
What is the reason for you treating her with reptaid?
Was there any other problem with her except for the parasites?

yes i did go for a fecal check cuz a vet cant go wrong there she had parasites ummmmm reptaid clears parasites and boosts the immune system and increases color and appetite

yeah i know all that lol! i wasnt clear, i thought that you didnt get a chance to go to the vet and you were just giving her reptaid for the hell of it. Now that is cleared up, good job shes is on her way back to being healthy.

The reptaid isn't always 100% effective in clearing up parasites. You need to have a fecal done again after the reptaid treatment is over. The good news is, since you already took the cham in to be seen by the vet, they should have no problem just checking a fresh poo sample and not charge you for an office visit/consultation. Least that's how my vet does it.

Ryan, You're very lucky, having to spend AALLLLLLLLLLLLL that money. I have one decent herp vet in my area, an hour's drive away and a basic visit, ONE blood test, and fecal is $475. That's not including possible x-rays, meds, etc. If I choose to have both chem panel and CBC, it's about 560 and those are just basics. I would be thrilled to find a vet that is is the $200 range for basics. So when you hesitate in the future, think about what my vet bills add up to.

ugh my vet i ont think knows what she is talking about my female has been sleeping for the past three days in ifferent spots and she ssaid its cuz my chameleon is tired nothing when its tired will hang to the side and sleep
