Rescue failed Female veiled chameleon with mbd

After 2 very hard days Matilda the chameleon passed away. In her last moments she acted as tho she was choking on something even tho she hasn't eaten in several hours and it was the mushed canned dog food the vet gave me. When I can afford to replace her I will. In the mean time I have 2 panther chameleon eggs in incubation to go pick up!

I was giving her bug juice. The vet gave her dog food said it was better for her. And yes it was a reptile vet...... Imho I won't be using him again

Thats one weird vet. You aren't even supposed to gutload with it cause its that bad. Weird
Sorry for your girl tho. May she find peace

I'm sorry for your loss.

Death is nothing like in the movies--they don't go quietly into the night. In general, the body fights hard really to stay alive and sometimes that is pretty ugly to look at especially if you haven't seen death before.

Death is a process and takes time. It isn't a moment in time. When death is imminent, there might be some gasping as the respiratory system shuts down. Studies on humans has shown that what looks very disturbing to nurses is not always at all distressing to the dying patient.

Why would you not use the reptile vet who treated her?

Again, sorry for your loss.

I was using the vet who treated her. He was the one who told us to feed 1.5 ml canned dog food 2 times a day. I thought it was weird so I sought out help from the forums and was told to make "bug juice" so I was giving her that rather then the dog food because I know the dog food is to high in animal protein for the chameleons diet. I today he vet how I felt about it and he STRONGLY advised the dog food!? So I agree very weird vet to want dog food....

My panther is doing great!
