Rescued an adult male Veiled today, advice appreciated

All the best for lil Monty, looking forward to hear the good news and see him fully recovered! :) merry xmas!! I feel quite touched with Monty's story, keep up the hard work! Well done!

I have just read your entire thread and it warms my heart. Thanks for sharing. His shooting at your hand is another way of saying back off!

I just read this thread from beginning to end and I have to say this gives me so much faith in my endeavor to save my jackson female, Hope. She is going through some severe MBD issues, but with liquid calcium in her supplements and the correct supplementation otherwise she is showing improvement most of the time. We have had a slight set back with some feeding but with how soft her jaw is it is so hard for her to eat correctly. I have been hand feeding her every day. It makes her so grumpy but she feels A LOT better after there is food in her belly.

I wish healthy days to Monty and happy worms <3 hopefully he will continue to brighten your life for quite a few years to come and come around to the whole handling thing ^^

Thanks for your kind words! Monty is making progress every day so I have high hopes for him.

Haha I figured it was something like that. At least I know he can shoot it!

MBD is a tough one. My first reptile was a rescue Blue Tongue Skink with MBD damage. It's surprising what reptiles can make it through. Just gotta keep doing what you need to do so that they get what they need to heal. Good luck with your Jackson's! It sounds like you're on top of it so it just might take time. :)

Monty continues to improve, and I'm very happy to say he's climbing and moving around much more normally with his back legs. Still some clumsiness, but he can hold his weight on them now.

He's eating very well and took to roaches like a champ, as well as the turnip greens I've put in a bowl for him. I'm particularly glad about that since the greens will help keep him hydrated.

Still very aggressive towards hands and now my phone when I try to take pictures, but as long as he stays healthy he can be as grumpy as he wants.

I just read your thread from the first reply to the last, and I saw how bad he looked at first and how he gradually improved. I'm glad you took him in, his colors are starting to show more brightly. Thank you for caring for this guy, especially since you had no experience at all and did it anyway.

Thank you very much for your kind words. It was definitely a scramble to get him set up properly and he still isn't in a big enough cage, but at least he's feeling better and is much stronger and alert than he was when I got him. I wish he'd had a better start in life, but can't do anything about what came before.

I actually saw him eat today which is nice. Since the bugs have been disappearing out of his feeder cup and he's been pooping, I know he's been eating, but seeing it gives me peace of mind. His aim seems to be pretty good despite probably being blind or mostly blind in his bad eye.

He just started his first shed with me today so he's even grumpier than usual. Hopefully it goes more smoothly than his last shed, as when I got him he still had some stuck pieces.

Jane still had previous shed stuck to her when she shed the first time for me - and she looked perfect afterwards. Humidity and good care make all the difference! I'm sure Monty will come out looking gorgeous. :)

No doubt! It seems to be coming off pretty easily, which I'm glad about. I'll check over him to make sure any previous stuck parts don't interfere, but looks like he'll be able to handle it himself.

Found a good sized poop and another white urate, so he seems to be good on feeding and drinking still. I'm very much looking forward to getting his proper sized cage in a couple of weeks so he can have some room to really move around and build more strength in his back legs.

There is still hope in humanity.

Thank you good sir for your act of kindness.

This is good chameleon karma for sure!

Thank you for your kind words. I just hope the good karma translates to him living the rest of his years as happily and healthily as he can despite his rough start.

Monty isn't too bad if you can trick him out of the cage on a stick. He's up to 125g from 120g when I got him. I'm not sure if he is a good weight or not. Seems a good deal lighter than other Veileds. He's got some padding on his casque, but his limbs look a tad skinny to me. Of course he could just end up being smaller because of substandard care.

Another vet visit for Monty this Friday. He's been off food for a week and even a fat Hawk Moth couldn't tempt him to eat. I know he's still getting used to his cage, but today I saw him straining to pass something and he was unable to. I'm thinking it could be impacted sperm plugs again, but we'll see. I'm also going to ask the vet about the brown color of his teeth. He's still drinking at least.
