Rescued Quads

So I was helping out Bill Strand at his booth this weekend during the Reptile Super Show. Doing this allows me to come out of the cave and hang out with normal people (being those who like reptiles).

Our booth was next to a chameleon rescue, one I was not aware of but then how often do I ever need a rescue anyway?

And so I met Elisa from Chameleon Education and Outreach.

In talking to her I saw she had this just bold and hefty Male Quad. He had a sad story to say the least being originally from an illegal shipment that had been confiscated by Fish and Game and then placed in crappy home. Elisa had nurtured him back to health over a long period. Many of you remember Ming who despite having a bone infection he survived over a year with the help of Dr. Greek. So after losing such a great cham after that struggle I was tossing around the idea of letting go of the Quad project and just focusing on Atlas. Lo and behold I end up sitting next to this Quad with a great personality.

Yeah I ended up adopting him, I also had a spare quad habitat for a female needing a home too.

So I'd just say it was meant to be. Weird huh?

Over the time I was with Bill I watched Elisa spend two full days speaking with and educating people about chameleons. Sometimes her booth was so packed you'd think they had things to sell. Lots of effort on her part to combat the plague of uneducated customers out there.

That's great stuff. Elisa sounds like an awesome person with an awesome purpose. Glad you got to bring those two awesome quads home. I'm sure they'll have a great life!!!

So happy they ended up in a good home, I saw her post on Instagram yesterday and was hoping you would put up some more picks. Nice looking quads!

Sounds like they went to a good home. I'm glad to hear that plenty of people stopped by to learn proper care from the ChamEO table. It's a good way to catch people that might not come to the forums to ask for help or information.

Alright! Ralph's back into the four horns!!
Nice looking male you got there too! It's a win/win: quads get a good home and you get healthy quads!

I thought you were coming by the show? Saw quite a few from these forums.

Bill's new Atrium cage was a huge hit. I ended up selling two to the same customer. Poor guy had bought a nice looking pair of Panther's but nobody had taught him about supplementation, he needed heat lamps and UVB bulbs! None of which Bill sells. I ended up walking the guy to a few booths belonging to people I knew and could trust, just to get him the gear he needed. Hopefully he'll come to these forums after I told him about them. If not he could be using Elisa's services in the future.

There were more chameleons at this show than I've ever seen before. Damn near everybody had at least one cage with a few for sale. From what I saw I'd estimated half were in a shape no beginner should even consider to take home. I saw a half grown Male Parson that was borderline between being savable or not, sunken eyes, weight missing from the wrong places, good color tho. I don't even want to think on the parasite load. For $1200 apparently somebody jumped on it.

Anyway, yeah they get a good home here and I'm happy to have em. Don't know their actual age but they've been in the country for a good 4-5 years. I'm hoping they make it into very old age at 8-10. I've never subscribed to the school that medium and large cham species have a short life span.

No, I couldn't make it down south, family wackiness.
Good weight on both those animals, and new blood too.
What ever happened to the couple of eggs you had going?

The two eggs, yes only two had been laid, don't seem fertile. They just passed the 5 month mark last week. I don't like to candle eggs but I will do a full exam on them late next week.

Congrats on that handsome boy Ralph! I've been following his story and was so happy you see that you adopted him. Elisa does a great job helping the chameleons and educating people about them. I help her out every little bit that I can.

Well they both ate well today. Lemmy has zero issue with me as I place food in front of him or adjust a nozzle. No flare up or desire to hide. Quadralupe on the other hand hid so well I didn't see her hiding under a huge porthos leaf until she shot her tongue out from her hiding place to grab a meal. Never ceases to amaze me how well a Quad really can hide.

What an appetite today. Both had a dubia, a hornworm, and 3-5 large crickets with straight calcium. Lemmy takes it right it out of my hand like old Ming did.
