Rudis Chameleon?

Hey i recently bought a rudis chameleon at a reptile expo hes a two month old boy and very cute i have recently done a ton of research on chameleons but im having a hard time figuring out how to get his humidity right and having issues with the calcium powder whenever i plug in his basking light the humidity drops way to low if anyone could help id really appreciate it hes my first chameleon and i dont want any thing to go wrong

In my opinion and dealing with all types I think dwarf chameleons are the hardest to take care of. Panthers and Pygmies are a breeze compared to dwarf. With my Rudis colony it took me awhile to figure out how
to do it. Do u use a screen cage or glass terrarium? and what are the demensions? I use 16x16x20 reptibreezes and attached them together to make a 32x16x20 cage. with lots of vines and two plants that filled the cage. If you look at my photos it's under my panther cage. To keep the humidity up I have acrylic sheets on the top half of the back and one side covered. I taped the sheets to the outside of the cage so the chams can still climb the screen if they want. I heavily mist one side and lightly on the other as they hate being misted. I do this at least twice if not three times a day.

its a screen home with demensions about 12x18x20 it has a few TINY hibiscus plants as well as vines and some fake plants attached to the sides im constantly misting his home but i cant seem to get the humidity above 70

Erm...sorry, dwarf chameleon? Bradypodion are normally referred to as dwarf chameleons. Not Trioceros. Don't know where you got that terminology from. Also, to Hermanator, it's not necessary to make 3 different threads. If you are having humidity trouble you can try exo-terras or covering the sides of his cage, along with several long misting sessions.

this is not specific to your type of chameleon, but to help with humidity you can do a few things (some already mentioned). Like adding more live plants, running a dripper, covering one or more sides with plastic etc. (as mentioned above), running a humidifier ( I use a cool mist near my jacksons cage at night and some times during the day).

Also for most chameleons can deal with peaks and valleys on humidity(again not familiar with rudis). I'd try to find out what range is desirable for your specific chameleon.

well hes supposed to be in levels around 80-90% but as of right now i plugged in my basking light and the humidity had dropped clear down to 50%, his humidity should never go below 70% :/

I'm glad you can read. I understand they just recently changed the classification to trios but most people know them as Mt. Dwarf Chameleons and as they don't get bigger than 5-6 inches I consider them dwarfs. Hence my statement about dwarf chameleons. Sorry for using a term you don't like. Ill call them small chameleons then.

I've never seen my little ones eat plants. I don't ever see any nibble marks either so I'd say they don't but I'm not 100% positive that none of them eat plants.

idk if this has bn answered cant get on the second page.they are 100% carnivores try the care sheet on llreptile.com they like 75+ humidy and temps between 90-75 for the day with the normal drog of ten degrees at night.

good luck, and dont over hold them they are one of the most easily stressed chameleons.( or so iv bn told)

thanks everyone for the help as i read more im finding more and more about respiratory issues due to keeping their homes to damp, i have been constantly misting to keep the humidity up and im worrying the humidity is to low as well as the cage being to damp should i clean it out? (he has a coconut husk dirt as a substrate)

That's nOt good man you don't want anything he could swallow by mistake. Altho substrate holds water and keeps it humid most of us chameleon keepers are against it becuz he could get it while hunting bugs chameleons are great shots but do miss sometimes or they could get the bug and substraite. Try getting papertowels for the bottom. Don't over mist u want the cage to dry b4 lights go out nothing is worst than a cool damp cage. Also make sure you give him alot of dense plants rudis chameleons are very fragile and need to feel hidin like all chameleons. Dont handle them unless u have too it could lead to them not eating. Upload some pics if u can Idk about everyone else but I love these little guys more than the big chams.
