SOLID!

not funny, and im not literally afraid of them they just send shivers down my spine, and set off a minor gag reflex.

i was hoping for more responses while i was gone, guess i need to make sure i stick around for versus threads to keep them going.

ligers dont count in this debate, ligers are usually fatties anyway.

weare talking some prehistoric megafauna.

i think this a pretty solid match up honestly

Short faced bear. already watched it before. rooted for the tiger tho :p

where did you see this? not questioning you i just wanna see whatever u saw.

You guys kidding me with this Smilodon landslide?!?!?!

Arctotherium augustidens FTW!!

Unless this was a surprise attack Smilodon would have no chance to use his canine "fangs" in an appropriate way that would be affective to cause any fatal wounds on the Shortface!

It has been shown that Smilodon would have to have a mouth gape of more than 180* to have a large enough bite radius to use thoes fangs properly! The probable only preyed on slender necked herbivores. (consider this! You have a 5" tooth, but can only open your mouth 8". That only leaves you with a 3" bite ability! Major fail! That's probably why modern big cats don't have the large "sabers").

He'd be left to only attack The Shortface's paws, ears and maybe it's snout!! All while taking heavy slashing slaps and bites!!

It would be no contest Shortface!! The facts of anatomy are there!

maybe just maybe if they hunted something like lions in a pride they would have a chance in hell.

from what i understand the fangs are too brittle to be used as a fatal blow. they would have had to have hunted in groups to subdue the prey then use the sabers to provide come sort of evisceration or laceration to the throat.

those flipping bears were huge, i dont think as massive as a polar bear. what ive read seems to be a gross exaggeration of weight, based on their shoulder height and modern bear anotomy. these bears were much more slender and lanky. build for running and actively perusing prey. think of it this way a grizzy can run 35mph for a few min, these things were build for running. so even if it wasnt faster (as i assume it would have been) the endurance is enough to give it the win.

shortface>sabertooth, sabertooth pride> lone shortface. DIRE WOLF pack=winning
