sad day for our meller

so last night I went into the "cham" room to find our meller hanging upside down, and a super bright yellow, I was thinking boy he is sleeping at a weird angle tonight and I stepped a little closer and saw that his eyes were super huge, his mouth open and was lifeless :( . He was fine just hours before. Such a sad night. Daves going to swing by tonight to get him to do a necropsy. He was full grown when we got him, was a WC so maybe it was just his time.....

Melleri are my favorite and I am sorry to hear about yours. I have never had a melleri be fine one minute and passed on the next - they generally will show signs of something within that much time, at least enough for you to notice. (yes, they can mask their sypmtoms like any other cham, but if you have had them for a while and know what's normal for them, then you will/should notice...) I am curious to see the results of the necropsy - please share them when you have a chance.

yes, I was stunned. he has been acting normal, we moved last week so that was the only change but he adjusted just fine. he was eating, drinking, pooping. I was in the room around 5ish and he was up at his favorite branch, and then I went back into the room at 8 and found him. I will share the results of the necropsy.

We will have had him for 2 years in May.

Hhhhmmm. Even if the move caused him stress, he would still show signs of something (especially since you've had him that long and would notice something out of the ordinary) such as a respiratory infection or lethargy as a result of the stress or something. Or, as you said, it could just have been his time. But yes, please do share the results.

Aww, that's so sad. Melleri are extra special it seems. It's hard to lose a cham. :( Sleep tight little big one. Thinking of you, Tiff.

Any spiders around?

I am so saddened by your loss-Major Mellers gave me a good scare today. When I feed him Dubia he seems to hold them in his mouth for several minutes before chewing. Today after feeding him one, he seemed to make some strange whiny noises and look like he was going to throw up-I was afraid the roach climbed down the wrong pipe! This went on for about 10 minutes, but after awhile he was fine-begging for food with his tongue hanging out everytime he saw me.

The Mellers have me by the heart.

Having 2 Mellers myself, I was so shocked to hear about yours passing! Mellers are so great and I am totally in love with mine. Please accept my condolenses.
