Sad Sad News From The Vet Yesterday

Red Update

Red is doing very well. He is still in complete remission and I did get to give him his treatment at home this past Monday. Tomorrow I take him back to the Cancer Clinic and he is scheduled for a treatment of the Vincristine. This is the drug that made him so deathly ill before so I am very worried. The oncologist said she will give him a very low dose or maybe even substitute different drug.

So glad to hear he's doing good Jann! Don't worry, I know it's hard for you not to! But you guys have come this far, you and red are doing a great job!

Red is still in complete remission

Red had chemo yesterday and he is doing well so far from his treatment. He was scheduled to have the same drug vincristine, that made him so deathly ill a couple of weeks ago so the oncologist and I agreed to an alternative drug called vinblastine that may not work quite as well but it doesn't usually make them sick.

Thank you to all that have been keeping him in your thoughts and prayers.

I hope he does well Jan, I totally understand what you are going through my grandmothers favorite dog, as well as my favorite dog passed away a few years ago of the same thing at age 13 so I know its hard but Im more than positive Red and yourself will pull through this. Good luck!

Hi Jann! How's mr red doing after his recent therapy and new medication? I'm still thinking about you guys and hoping for the best :)

this is a really interesting thread- thank you for sharing & I'm so happy he's in remission. I'd heard of chemotherapy for animals but didn't know how it worked & it's good to hear a story of it working well. Hope he gives u plenty of joy :)

Red had a very good week. Thank you guys for asking and keeping up with his progress. No chemo this week. He's next treatment will be Monday and he'll get the drug Adriamycin. The doc says this could make him sick. I hope she just means possible vomiting and or diarrhea and not the blood count like before. I will find out more when I take him BEFORE he gets his treatment.

Adria is notorious for causing vomiting. It is rare to see cause low blood counts from it. Moki was fine for the first 2 doses of adria, but her third dose made her sick all day long - she vomited like 7 times and felt crummy. The side effect kicks in 2 or 3 days after the actual dose is given. Luckily dogs have a wonder drug against nausea so once I got that for her she felt much better. And the next time she got adria she was on that anti-nausea drug preemptively and never felt sick at all.

Stay strong Red!

geee...that seems like something Jann and Jann's vet should be told about.

Red and I thank you for your concerns.

Dr. Camps gave us Cerenia for nausea, vomiting and poor appetite and Metronidazole for diarrhea on our very first visit. So far we haven't had to use it but it looks like we might be trying it out next week.

Awww Jann! I'll be asking the universe to keep a special eye on you guys next week. I'm glad you have everything you need just in case.

Hey Jann,,,,, Stanley and I will be keeping you and Red in our thoughts and prayers next week!!!!!!!! I hope all goes well!!!!!!!!
