San Deigo Wildfires

I just wanted to wish everyone my best in east county and effected by the wildfires. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

I have Pablo set to go, if I have to evacuate (probably won't happen where I am located). I think I am going to toss some crickets that were left outside, because they were covered with a layer of sut. It is hot in my apartment and I shut off my heat lamp because I don't want Pablo to overheat with 80 degree weather, all the windows shut up, and no a.c.

Kent, hope you had room to bring all your little guys inside. I worry about the air quality. I was out and about hiking yesterday when the smoke moved in and I ended up with a bad headache and allergies acting up.

I live in North County. San Marcos is burning up right now and were finished packing our stuff. Were evacuating in 10 minutes

Yeah, it's bad

My family is all evacuated but managed to find a hotel
I'm in good shape where I'm at in between the major fires
But my neighbors family isn't so fortunate their homes are gone.

mulberry farms is also in the evacuated zone as is amazing blue
I'm sure there are others.. don't try to call them as it'll clog up the phone lines
that people need to use to fight the flames.

right now, I'm hoping that the family business managed to make it unburned
but I'm not so hopeful :I

San Diego is a War zone right now. i live next to the stadium which is going to hold some of the at least 250,000 people that have been evacuated so far. it will be an interesting next few days round here.

i also have Chargers season tickets. we are prepared to load up the RV and go wherever this weekends game ends up.

gl to all that need to evacuate

I am not an overly religious person, but I truly feel for all of you and will say a prayer of hope.

I brought all the chams inside last night when it started snowing ash. So far today, the wind has been much kinder to the Point Loma peninsula than apparently the rest of the county. It's smelled smoky but there's been little ash falling here today. I walked down to the beach this morning and just a couple miles north of here (where Sara lives) there was a wall of smoke being blown across the land, with practically nill visibility through it. I assume I'm pretty well protected where I am so I'm really just worried about the rest of our city. My mother lives out in the east county a block away from the hillsides. So far their neighborhood hasn't been threatened, but these fires have just popped up everywhere.

I have a friend who is a vet tech here. We are both experienced with up to the largest size snakes and lizards (except Komodo dragons, of course.) We called the Humane Society and volunteered to help. They took my name and number but said they weren't even at a point where they could coordinate volunteers yet. I know I'm off at least through tomorrow so if anyone has any suggestions on how we could be useful we'd like to hear.

Sara, I can't remember where you said you live. Are you close to the 805? On the plus side, now might be a good time to make your mean little lizard deal with some handling, like it or not. You need to come see this old male I have living here now. I think you said you've never held a "friendly" male right?

Good luck everyone. You know how to get a hold of me if I can help.

Um Hello?

I hope that the chargers do try to play a game somewhere around here as if everything is OK.

This is the worst fire(s) in the states history for cryin out loud.
Games and season tickets ???? it can't compare in all seriousness.

I have family in Escondido, San Marcos, and Poway. I have avoided calling them because there is little I could do and I figured I should keep off my cell as much as possible.

as for the rest I refer to my last post

they will play. the NFL showed that during the Cedar fires. nothing means more to the NFL then staying on schedule.

lets just hope these fires will stop and there would be no more deaths...houses are just wood and bricks as long as everyone is alive and well nothing else matters houses will get rebuild lives cannot...my heart goes out to everyone out there and hope hope the death toll stays at 1............

Yeah we're all in the same boat...
booshifted, I hope that all of your family is going to be pulling through this great.
but that football comment threw me back a bit.
some things are more important than their schedule
and I hope it bites them hard on their collective ass.

BTW, Del Mar has just been evacuated
it looks like this is going to burn a 1,000 homes tonight.

I live in the golden triangle, between 805 and 5. I heard they are evacuating Del Mar, the town above us. We are getting concerned and plan to pack just in case. I am thinking I will bring Pablo, his enclosure, worms, lights, suppl if we need to leave. I heard that Pet Kingdom in Point Loma is taking reptiles, if need be. Kent, maybe we can give you a call and drop off Pablo if we have to evacuate? Hopefully won't be necessary, but I like to be prepared.

Also, the phone number to call to schedule a time to volunteer at Del Mar fairgrounds is 858-792-5245. They have 1800 hundred stalls with livestock and need help with the animals and need some straw for them.

Everyone please stay safe!!

Of course.

Although it appears the area is not directly threatened at the moment, the news just showed a graphic for the evacuation area that included where my mom lives. They haven't heard anything there yet and the smoke is still coming from the same area so I'm just hanging out waiting...

Im here in MD,but i hope all you,AND your beutiful(and mean) chams make it safely through this! Do whats best for you and your chams:) I would think to keep em hydrated, just throwing things out there, ill pray for you guys.

if you look at the google maps of the two main fires for San Diego
you'll see that you're in very good shape

http://tinyurl.com/37dvp2

I'm at the office (Sorrento Mesa) right now right by the Qualcomm complex
The smoke smells of burned brush and NOT houses (plastic caustic)
that's a good sign
but it also lets you know how this is moving around (burning brush)
take that google map and use the sat image hybrid
you can see that the fire is following most of the green zone channels to the sea
the winds are pushing EAST TO WEST not SOUTH WEST
so it'll burn to the north of you towards the racetrack following the brush

they've re-opened parts of poway .. thats a great sign as the fire
isn't going to be making it's way farther south and rip through
Poway, PQ, Santa Luz and lower Del Mar.

I just hope it doesn't take out my parents house
they're a few miles south of the advancing tongue of the witch creek blaze
if it broadens down to the 52... I may have a few new roomates. :(
