Last night I dyed my hair a very bright electric pink & since then Neelix has been hiding constantly and shying away from me when I approach him. Am I right in thinking my new hair colour is scaring him? I dye my hair these funny colours from time to time, but this is the first time since getting Neelix. I may have to rethink the colour but it won't wash out for 2-3 weeks.

lets see that pink hair!Let us judge if we run then its the pink... j/k yeah they see in color and colors impact them... hence their changing colors is communication. I guess he figures your not a receptive female. :D

Yes they are very visual when forming opinions :) I read a story on here about a girl who's chameleon was scared of her glasses! Was fine when she didn't have them on though lol!

My male Ambilobe gets super indignant if any red is worn by anyone in the house. He is super tame, so he will march up to you and climb you and stare you down if he sees red clothing. It's kinda comical. Before I just avoided wearing red I used to just take off my shirt and tend to him in my bra so he'd back off! Lol

Would you like to post pics. Please.lol:p

Looking at this pic, I can see why the poor bugger is scared. It's very bright!

He's just emerged from behind his umbrella plant to drink from the dripper (which I've never seen him do before), so perhaps he will forgive me.

didn't upload the first time

I have to say.. you are probably right. It seems like reds/pinks really freak them out. My Panther is chill as can be, but he looks at me differently and gets nervous when I wear red in particular. Which sucks because all of my pajama's are red or blue, and I'm usually in my p.j.'s when I'm caring for him.
Lol. The brighter colors seem to definitely get a reaction.

I love the story about caring for your Cham in your bra. That's hilarious and I would be lying if I said I've never done it too. Haha! My Veiled always hated my skin, but that's what Loki (Panther) feels most comfortable with. He's more scared of a glove than my bare hands. Which I love, but it confuses me.

Has anyone had any experience with the glasses thing? I notice Loki always looks at my eyes when I'm close to him. I took of my glasses last time I attempted to handle him. You know they can see their reflection in them. I'd love to hear some stories about glasses and Chams.

The glasses could cause issue if they can see reflection in them, they have great eyesight. They do respond to colors indeed, it was recommended to wear earth tones when interacting to achieve a neutral interaction. Think about it a cham see's this big colorful thing coming and alerts predator or another cham trying to move into my turf.

Never had an issue with the colors i wear around my cham and i wear bright color alot. Also never had an issue with him and my glasses. I was also told that him being in a glass cage would do the same with the reflection and never had any issue.

I completely agree. My Panther seems way more concerned with colors, than my Veiled ever did. I think it's because in the wild, they would see those same colors on other Chameleons. Veiled's would also see it as a threat, but more so with a species that displays red, blue, orange, etc.

It makes it a bit difficult in my situation because I keep my animals in my bedroom. My pajamas are pretty much avoidable. I'm in need of some new ones anyway, so I'll try to find some in a darker color. Lol.

oh dear, I shall have to wear a hat lol. The dye will get less bright as it washes out, but in the meantime I'll have to continue to play peek-a-boo with him. These little guys really are sensitive, bless em!

love the hair! my fiance and i have dyed ours numerous times (mostly me) name a color i had it... but i havent touched my dirty blonde since we got the chams... im way overdue... dont think i'll be doing that tho lol

lol thanks guys :)

Neelix is still hiding, but he crept out to eat his super worm before going back into hiding so I'm sure he'll get over it lol
