so i have a female veiled about 4 months old and my question is, is it normal for her to run and hide when i even get near the cage? i mean ive only had her for about 5 days but even when she is basking and i get near the cage she runs and hides in her plants.

we have a male veiled almost 4 months old and e will turn anyway to try to avoid detection!!! and as time has passed (had him since Sept) he is getting better and is enjoying time out with us. take your time she will come around

okay thanks. and not only that but she is pretty mean. when i was at the store picking her out she was running all over me and was a bright neon. now if i even stick my hand in she snaps and hisses at me and if i do hold her she really doesnt move around much.

My 6 month old veiled does the same thing. He hides almost everytime I come in the room. I've pissed him off in the past trying to get him to come out, so he's a little wary of me right now. He will eventuall warm up to me and so will yours

Your newest member will require time to become used to her new environment and you. It can take a number of days, if not weeks for her to feel comfortable. Generally I'd say 10 days is a fair amount of time for you to give her some space - she doesn't know your intention is to feed, love and care for her - she thinks you are a predator out to harm her! As much as you want to hold her right now, I wouldn't recommend it if you want to gain her trust and tame her eventually. She'll come around, I promise!

I try to go in a few times a day and ignore him and cage, so he gets used to my presence. I also mist and feed crickets daily. Last night he hung out with me on the couch and was quite happy roaming, trying again now, and it bright green and content!!! thanks everyone. yeah i guess its just weird to me cause i also have a jackson and from the first day he never hissed at me or tried to bite me and had no problem with me handling him. he was also older than she is when i first got him. but yeah if i even put my had in sometimes she will do the suicide drop and it scares the hell outta me. idk hopefully she will come out of her shell cause right now all she does is hide in her ficus plants (which she is really good at cause i can never find her lol)
