i just got the adult sized cage for our next baby veiled, a 2x2x4 screen cage and we are putting it together now. problem is the large plastic bottom did not come attached to the frame of the bottom. so how do i attach it to the frame piece for the bottom?? i dont want to just set the cage on top of it as water will leak out of the bottom and it will defeat the drainage system im going to make. any ideas would really help!!!

maybe cut to size and maybe a lil silacone to seal it up...think that would work..or use a hot glue gun and run a bead around were you think it would leak...dont think either would bother a cham of any kind..im no perfesionla tho lol....good luck on fixing the way you want

The plastic bottoms of my cages just rest on the bottom rim of the cage from the inside.

My cages are the 2x2x4 screen cages from LLL Reptiles.

I had the same problem when I set up my cage. The cage "bottom" is actually just a plastic sheet that slides into the cage. It didn't support the cage and definitely didn't protect from leaking.

I ended up buying the LLLReptile "Screen Cage Water Tray" for the size of my tray. Worth the money, IMO. The screen cage sits inside the tray, so it catches water. So of course, then I had a flooding problem. "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie" syndrome :)

I then cored a hole in one corner and siliconed in simple sink drain assembly from a hardware store. Attached some vinyl tubing to the drain assembly, directed it to a bucket and POOF, easy cage drain. Shimmed it up on two sides to facilitate drainage, and it works like a charm. I'm a little handy, not super handy, but I was able to do this myself without much trouble.

The only catch is because the drain is in the bottom, you have to have a setup that allows the drain assembly and hose to extend down. I did this by using an end table smaller than my cage size...which would not have worked without the cage tray anyway.

The standard bottom is designed to sit inside the cage tray also, and that will help prevent feeders from escaping.

There are also TONS of people who have far more elegant assemblies that what I did. There is a permanent post under the Enclosures forum dealing with cages and drains. You should look through what others have shared and marvel :)

i guess thats what this one is supposed to do too! the cage is basically the same i got it off of ebay, fromb-frade cages, they are cheaper because some have small factory issues. mine is fine however! :) im just concerned about water going everywhere

i've looked at the water trays from LLL, i just wanted to get the cage home and set up first before ordering to see if i would need it! i wasnt sure if i could just set up a drainage system through the bottom of the cage. appears i shall need the water tray! :)

the drainage system you did is basically what i was planning as well! i'm looking into getting a table that has holes in it sort of like the metal grid tables restaraunts have in their kitchens to set my cage on so i can put the drainage system through the holes as well as deal with the plumbing for the misting system a little easier :D

thanks for the advice and info everyone! all of this helped rest my mind that it was just how the cage is supposed to be and i will get it all worked out :) excited to get it all set up and finally bring our next baby home!!!!

i had my cham for 2 months or so now...no drain tray...it was a must i just received it yesterday and need to hook it up..in the mean time just have to keep a towel on the side it puddles and change it out every other day...
