I have a Mellers and I was wondering how often should they shed?

How old is he? They will slow down their shedding cycle the older they get.

His(?) Age

I am unsure of his age since I was told he was a elephant ear when in fact you all helped me discover he is a mellers....I was told he is a year and a half old. I measured him today from the tip of his nose to the base of his tail and he is 9 and1/2 inches long. Can you tell by his length?
He hasn't shed yet but he has spots that look like he is begining tp peel.
