What's that all about? Everynow and then she comes down from the branches and starts trying to eat the water fountain! I think its made of hard resin so I can't imagine it being very good for her teeth? She is a Vieled cham, about four months old, has a very healthy diet of meal worms, crickets, locusts and some greens ie. Carrot! Any ideas? Anoyone else experienced this? Thanks

she is probley thirsty as chameleons drink from drippers and from when u create droplets on leaves from misting .ive heard standing water and waterfalls are a waste of time and money

The fountain seems to be ok for her. I've seen her drink from it many of times today and in the past.

your cham may be trying to get a drink. do you have a dripper? waterfalls are not really good to keep in a chams enclosure as they are a breeding grounds for bacteria unless throughly cleaned daily.

The reason why most of us dont use bublers or fountains is because of the bacteria buildup that can occur in these standing water dishes. Often the cham poos in them and fouls the water then drinks from it. Or crickets will fall in and drown and thats another no no. I'd ditch that thing and just get a dripper or a mist system. Your cham will be much happier and will be able to rinse its eyes and skin if you get the approp equipment. ;)

Ditto!

Ditch the water fountain! As others have mentioned mistings and the use of a dripper are more ideal for health reasons.

Thanks for the info. :) I was thinking of getting shot of it anyway. Still doesn't answer why she's trying to eat it tho! :/ Can't think of any logical reason for it!

She may think its made of dirt/stone and is trying to eat it. Some chams will try and eat dirt. Maybe she thinks she can grab a dirt snack. I dont know thats the only thing I could think she might be trying to do.

Might sound stupid but some dinosaurs ate stones to help break down and digest their vegetarian food! Birds are desendants of dinosaurs and they do the same! :)

I read somewhere the other day about how they can eat branches to practice their bite... maybe she's doing the same.

Does the water pour down over the "rocks" before reaching the pool? She may be trying to bite at the moving water. Chams are attracted to the sight of moving water and often shoot at or bite shiny droplets.
