Shy little boy

Hi everyone! I have my baby veiled cham for 2 weeks. But i cant even watch him :/ He starts to run into his little jungle when im looking. He is so shy :(
I have handled him once for like 0.5 seconds (to put him in his enclosure).
He eats/drinks well. And of course no hand feed yet :( So what can i do for him?
(I know you will say "Check Psychobunny's blog for taming" but i have read it like 10 times :D ) Thanks for any answer :)

Sounds like you've done allot of research. For one, the hardest thing to do when getting a new cham is letting him be for a couple weeks so he can get use to his new enclosure. And seeing that you've only handled him since you've put him in his new home is great! :D

It'll take awhile till he opens up and starts to come out. During the days chams like to explore and check around their new home. I say in a week try hand feeding, Or rig up a feeder cup so you can watch him eat.

Maybe try and show him a small HornWorm? or SuperWorm? That always does the trick lol.

Thanks for your reply. I have already shown him some superworms from "safe distance" but he keeps running away. Also he has a feeding cup (He eats worms and roaches from feeding cup but i let him hunt his locusts.) in his enclosure but he wont eat infront of me. Actually I have seen him eating just 2-3 times but im sure that he is eating and drinking well from his poo and urate :D I have never offered a hornworm because in my country live feeding is limited. I can only buy locusts, dubia roaches, mealworms, superworms.

Thats good to hear though! Atleast your little guy is eating...

You have a great variety of inverts as is, only thing I can tell you now is just give him time. As he gets older he'll get alittle more bolder. He may just be scared of you :)

Also be sure his insects are properly dusted with vitamins & he's drinking water/staying hydrated. Your chams feces looks like he's doing fine :)

Other than that sounds like you got a great sense of knowledge.

Keep it up!

gabe!!!!! :)

Just let him be for now. Don't do any fast movements and don't bother him with staring (I know it's hard ;) ). Let him get use to seeing you at first :)

*bump*

It's been a month since I got him. But nothing changed :( . Still when I get near the cage he runs :/ I could't take even a photo. But he looks healty and he eats/drinks nice. :). My boy is so shy. When will this finish?

Im sorry to hear all that! You should prepare yourself for the fact that he may never change. Now that doesn't mean to totally give up but you may have to just understand that you got a really shy Guy is all. Honestly keep patient and continue to do what your doing and he should get better even if it is just eating out of your hand. Who knows though, he may come around one day and love the handling. I would just keep working him cause he may change! (Hopefully)! He sounds like he is in a very caring home!

Awwww, welcome to the wonderful world of cham ownership.
Get used to being worried, freaked out, etc. because chams are notorious for causing their owners as much worry as possible.
I think it's something they enjoy :D ;)

But really, don't worry, we have all been there and done that, so you came to the right place for help.

Please check out my blog on taming, and there are several general husbandry
blogs you should check out.

hi there,
just wanted to share that my jackson i have had for 2 months is
still quite shy. i am a believer in patience and love though.

my veiled on the other hand has been a lover for quite a while.
but i think he just wants out of the cage and i happen to be his freeway to freedom.

hang in there, patience and love:)

When will this finish? Sadly for you.....(and for my Dad)...hahaha.....you aren't going to stop worrying about him until you stop feeling responsible for him.....
And you are kinda responsible for him while he's living under your roof.
Lol. I wanna advise you to 'respect his boundaries' but that would just be silly....:D
Ok, well I've said it now.....When he's a grown up I'm sure he'll be more confident and settled.
Like my Rinty. He was never very nervous....now he's like a badass rolling stone....he tolerates me coming into his territory to clean, feed and mist. Sometimes he is even happy to climb on me a bit.
Mostly though he likes to sit high up and watch things. Occasionally he gives me 'the look' which says - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AGZOgPYrCo4
I'm sure when your shy boy is a man he'll be a proper Chameleon. Even the best Chams will still hide sometimes though. For the lols.
