Hello all, i have a Jackson Chameleon and i dont think he is look well. I was wondering if maybe you guys could tell me whats going on. A little while ago i noticed that he got a big sore on his left cheak. I took him to the vet and they drained it and it was starting to look better. Then after i got home from school i noticed that his left eye was very swollen, and wont eve open. His eye was perfectly fine last night though. If you guys could help i would be very greatful, im worried the poor little guy isnt going to make it :(
Thanks, Chris

Sounds like the infection spread to his eye. He needs to go back to the Vet. Did they put him on antibiotics?

My mother took him to the vet again whn i was at school. I think they ave us some meds for him. Do you know if he will make it?

Here is some pics.

That’s a nasty infection, poor thing; definitely keep him on the meds that your vet gave your mom. And take good care of him.

Try to keep him hydrated. Hes prob not going to eat much if at all while hes taking the antibiotics. So keeping water in him will give him strength.

Okay, i will do my best. Yeah we have antibiotics for 2 weeks, we squirt it in his mouth, once a day. We just finished the first one. He did eat a little this morning, i will keep him hydrated.

Ouch! Looks pretty painful. He may not be interested in eating as his mouth and gum are probably quite sore. If he stops drinking on his own you can help keep him hydrated by dripping warm water with some Pedialyte mixed in onto his face so it rolls down to his lips.

I hope he makes it. Its a pretty bad infection and could take a long time.

Yes his cage is always free of crickets, last night i think there was a couple that he didnt eat, which i need to get out, but other then that it always it. And thank you all for the concern. Good news though, his eye is way less swollen already :) i am keeping him on the antibiodics for 2 weeks. Hey olimpia you sent me a pm, if you see this, sorry i didnt respind, my private message thing isnt working for some reason. I would love help man, but idk what you could do..

Be careful that you ease the meds into his mouth so he doesn't aspirate the meds into his lungs. The swelling of the eye might be due to the draining of the cheek....or the infection may have spread. If the temporal gland (at the corner of the mouth) swells again, it might need to be cleaned out again. Did the vet do a culture and sensitivity test of the exudate from the swelling?

I dont think so. My mother took him and all she told me was they like drained his cheek, then when she took him the second time for the eye they gave us meds for him.

A culture and sensitivity test would let the vet figure out the best meds to put the chameleon on and what the bacteria is that's involved.

Okay so i think the meds are helping, his eye is still swollen, but it is starting to open up. He is not eating due to the meds though, should i try force feeding him baby food or something from the surenges like the way i give him his meds?

Hey, I'm gad you're getting help for him! :)

There is a food formula that you mix with water that vets will give reptiles if they can't eat, like in your case. Ask your vet if he has some of that for your guy, he should tell you how much of it to give him and how often. Good luck! I hope he starts feeling better soon.

Definetly a case of stomatitus youve got there, you may also want to order some rot-guard from lllreptile.com, in addition to repti-aid from chameleonsnorthwest, a 1:1 mixture of betadine and honey will also help clean the wound.
