Silk Worm Heaven

I got my first shipment of mealworms for Clyde yesterday. Do I need to watch how many he eats like wax worms?

The minute he saw them he was all over them! They are a lot easier to deal with too. I just laid out a bunch on his vines and let him snoop them out. Of course I gotta watch those little buggers since I know they might wreak havoc on my foliage.

Title of post says Silkworms, text of post says mealworms....Going to assume Silkworms. Some chams will get runny poop from eating lots of silkworms. Some don't. Variety in the diet is best. Gut loaded crickets as the base diet ensures that you get most of the bases covered. Adding several silkworms, hornworms, butterworms or roaches adds extra calcium or some other nutrients not gotten with the crickets. It's also fun for the chameleon. In nature they would be eating many different things to get the right balance. The closer we can get to that situation is the ideal.

lol, yeah, post should be silk worms. I was on auto pilot when I wrote that. So far his poop has been good. But I'll monitor him. I'm still mixing crickets and mealies, but he hasn't really taken to wax worms like I would have expected. I haven't tried veggies in about a month. I still think he's too young, but I may give it another try in a week or two.
