This is the latest pic of I have of my hybrid Panther chameleon Skittles... He's almost 8 months old now.

We just got a new Ambilobe x Ambanja hybrid female today to start up a breeding project this winter! She's quite colorful herself but no pics until next week  She needs her privacy

absolutely LOVE the name with the colors! awesome picture!

we have 6 eggs from an ambanjaxambilobe cross that we are hoping will be hatching out any time now... hope they look as impressive as yours!

Thanks guys. We're really lucky to have got such a colorful cross, as I've seen quite a variance among crosses. Screameleons really did a good job pairing up whoever produced this little guy.

I'd definitely love to see some other hybrids/crosses! My wife and I are definitely going to become more active here on the site now that we're setting ourselves up to be amateur breeders. ;)

Good luck. This place is great!

Thank you :)

This female is our fourth Panther chameleon. We've lost 2, 1 was a pet store purchase (female) who passed due to complications or dehydration following her first clutch of eggs. The other was my almost 2 year old Nosy Be male who was my first chameleon, causes unknown but seems to coincide with leaving him under other care while away on vacation.

That said, I think I've amassed quite a bit of knowledge from raising these little guys, especially with the help of this site, and with my wife fully dedicated to caring for the future babies during the day, we'll probably have a great success!

He's gorgeous! I love crosses, I myself have a Nosy Faly x Ambanja guy and I am looking around to find him a Faly cross female. I actually purchased one but she couldn't be shipped due to a sudden medical issue so the sale was canceled. But the search is on! lol I love the idea of breeding crosses for your own amusement (I don't know if this is what you're doing) and keeping all the babies from a small clutch.

He's beautiful! We bought from a Nosy/Ambi from Screameleon's a while back. They have some amazing crosses :) Here is a pic of ours (fuzzy pic but you can tell the coloring)

Your man is a stunner!! Beautiful! Can't wait to see pics of your girl!

Nice, you've got a very stunning cross as well. I was split on which cross to choose initially, but settled on this one.

And to answer the query above, we've going to raise the male offspring until 5 months or so and hopefully sell them for a premium if they're this colorful. We'll probably keep a female as a future breeder and let family have the rest to raise under our guidance :) Since they of course will be exactly 50/50% Ambilobe and Ambanja I don't think I will have any problem selling them, especially with the lineage from this little guy.

He's very pretty, and good luck with finding him a mate!
I don't think the genetics works quite that way, though that probably is how such offspring would be advertised; might be more accurate to say "offspring of Ambilobe-Ambanja cross parents". Since genes are shuffled around and recombined during any mating, offspring could end up with almost 100% Ambilobe genes, almost 100% Ambanja genes, or any mix in between (assuming an equal proportion of Ambilobe and of Ambanja genes in each of the parents, and random assortment when the gametes are being produced).

Thanks!

Though I understand your explanation completely and that's my understanding as well, I think people put way too much stock in the uniqueness or genetic diversity among locales of Panther chameleons. I can understand the drive to maintain locale bloodlines, but it also makes sense to hybridize these animals to come up with a more desirable, more colorful "breed."

As with the controlled selective breeding of any other species, the successful hybridization of a super colorful Panther chameleon can accomplished by selecting the "best" (in this case, the most colorful) breeders. Of course, genetics are hit or miss and only select offspring would be selected to continue the bloodline.

Labeling the genetic makeup of each "locale" of Panther chameleon distinctly doesn't make a whole lot of sense when you consider that literally 99.9% (or more) of their genetic makeup is identical. What makes sense for my goals is to breed based upon the best show of colors, which may or may not result in stunner chameleons. lol

I will say, though, that we'll probably keep a replacement male and female as pets for other parts of our home, just because we enjoy them so much. The others will be sold off or given away to family, labeled as who knows what - maybe simply as hybridized Panther chameleons (with both Ambilobe x Ambanja parents if a purchaser wants to know).

It's going to be a totally "new" experiment for us, but it's something my wife can focus a ton of time and attention to during the day, so I have good hope that the first batch will at least produce a few hatchlings.

Oh, and this is our new female:

She's slightly larger than in that photo, but I am holding off on sticking my huge camera in her face to get up-to-date photos.

Her father is here: http://www.screameleons.com/site/ProductId__1868/3365/default.aspx - Wild Caught apparently

And her mother is from the bloodline of this lovely guy: http://www.screameleons.com/portal/alias__Screameleons/lang__en-US/tabID__3495/DesktopDefault.aspx
