So we have been totally socked in here in Far northern CA from smoke from a fire east of us and south of us. Kinda nuts but between the marine layer (fog) and the smoke our sky looks like something straight out of a zombie movie. This was at 10am... Still very dark out. We even have ash falling.

Thats what it looked liked in that movie night of the comet

Well, Bentley does have that cute little zombie eye.
I honestly don’t know how y’all deal with all the fires and smoke that goes with them.

Good luck @Beman and everyone impacted by the fires! I'm in Seattle and it's bad here like an orange-tinted nightmare. Last time the smoke was this bad it killed my guinea pigs who were already advanced in age but Xerxes didn't miss a beat. It's good not to need a ton of oxygen right now. This time I have an air purifier working overtime in a losing battle to just keep air quality in my home marginally better than hazardous. I'm most worried for my phyllomedusa hypochondrialis froglets. *fingers crossed*

I wonder the health impacts of all of the ash and smoke. Might as well start smoking cigarettes.
Obviously not good, but I wouldn't think days or weeks would be as bad as years of smoking, BICBW.
It would also depend on what other substances are in the smoke & ash. Smoke from burning buildings (e.g. 9/11) is far worse than smoke from a brush fire (essentially campfire smoke).
