Snake people?

P9040009_1.jpg
Any snake enthusiasts on here? A friend of mine is rehoming her male sand boa to me because she can't take it with her when she moves back into her parents house. I've never had a snake before and was looking for pointers. Of course I'm going to do my own research but it would be awesome if someone could help get me started in the right direction. Thanks

What do you want? (Growls the old fart from his cave pointing a sharp stick at you from the gloom)

I have kept a rescued ball python for about 13 years. She's a typical docile beautiful normal bp, probably a wc import, easy to keep, but I have to admit she's a bit boring too. Never seems to need any attention (which ends up meaning she doesn't GET much). I have no idea how old she is, but suspect she's approaching her senior years. My biggest problem coming up is how to get her frozen feeders here. The ONLY independent pet supply in the whole region just closed down and producers don't ship to my address directly. The shop was willing to take delivery of my feeders and forward them to me by air taxi. The relatively new PetCo who probably caused the other shop to close will not do anything so helpful.

As a result, I may have to re-home her, though as I commit to all my rescues for the long haul its going to be hard.

I seek knowledge ole wise one and your sharp stick doesn't intimidate me. Beautiful snake in the picture too.

I'm the same way. When I take in an animal I take it in for life. She sounds beautiful. Hard decision to rehome.

I have a ball python who just turned a year old (supposedly) this week. For the past two months he's been missing. I literally searched everywhere, all his favorite hiding spots, even took the bottom back panel off my fridge but still couldn't find him. 4 days ago I come home and there's random stuff on the kitchen floor. I was about to beat my cats lol until flicked the light on and saw him, Caligula, making his way across the stove. I freaked! I never thought I'd be so excited to find a snake on my kitchen counters. I put him in his tank and he immediately ate and drank. Now, he wants back out. I keep seeing him trying to plan his escape but he's definitely on house arrest for a while.

He wasn't really wanting a bath. Clearly

My dad had a 5-6 foot ball and he lost it in his mothers car for 2 weeks. He thought it had gotten out of its bin in the car are crawled out of the car when he couldn't find it. The ball had gotten into the dash board.

O wow, I thought losing him in the house was bad. I can't even imagine losing him in my car. I thought for sure since it had been so long that he somehow made his way outside. I used to let him out all the time but he always came back out within a week. 2 months just seemed like so long and I was really getting to the point where I thought I'd never see him again. I'm just so thankful he finally came out and he's back home.

Spiders are monsters that come from the deepest parts of hell.

I totally forgot my other snake. Whoops... I also have a western hognose. His name is Nero. I was having a heck of a time trying to get him to eat at first but now he eats like a champ. His little face is just so sweet.

Bad mummy- bad mummy! :LOL:How could you forget such an angel!! He's adorable- always wanted one but put off by their eating habits- as you say once going , fine but getting there can be a struggle. He's an absolute peach though. Envious face!

Virgil- you are so right- I was looking through a book I hadnt looked at for years today and opened one part of the book to find the whole page was covered in post it notes. I thought what the ?? then I peaked under them to find a big image of a bbiigg spider .Obviously I had done this ages ago, the fear of forgetting and opening a book to suddenly see one is too much, I'm so bad with spiders I cant even look at a picture so cover them all up with what ever means I can .
Sorry - back to Snakes. Bless them.

It took about 2 months to get him to eat. Being that he was so small I was worried. I took him to the vet and she said he was fine and gave me more ideas to try (which I had already done). I took him back to the girl I got him from and she took him home and had him eating in 2 weeks. I guess the container I was feeding him in was too big. Now he eats just fine in his own tank. I'm so glad I have such an awesome local reptile shop. Don't know what I would do without them!
