Our female is in an extra large cage from DIYcages.com We have an egg laying bin in with her. When we first put her in the new cage she was climing the walls constantly - all over the cage, not really like her normal, hang-out-on-the-branch-all-day-basking kinda self. She was climing and moving ALL THE TIME and a couple times she fell. This is a much larger cage than her previous one that we got her in (kinda a rescue) so I put some towels down at the bottom for padding when she fell. I'm not sure it was needed, but made me feel better. Then she discovered the laying bin of sand, dug to the bottom, did her thing, buried everything back up, and now for the past two weeks she has been her mellow contented self again.
I have since pulled out the towels because she no longer seems to need them, however, when I mist her (by hand) the water obviously ends up at the bottom. I'm not sure what the little flimsy bottom is made of that ships with the DIYcage, but I can't imagine it can take too much water without evenutally warping. Can I put some peat moss or something at the bottom to help absorb some of the water as it falls? Is peat moss safe for her? I realize I'll need to change it out regularly, that's fine, I just want something down there for a bit of absorbancy.
TIA.
