Spike has become a bit agressive in the past months because of hormones setting in (Hes now a year old). Ive been training him to be ok with being touched normally im allowed nowhere near him with my hand unless hes crawling on it and im proud to say today for the first time ever not only was i able to stroke his back he was even letting me rub his casque and he loved it!! Here are a few pics i took while he was out today.

Spike is looking great! You can enjoy a friendly cham so much more, although I am yet to encounter a 'nasty/normal' one!

Nice! Hope Charlie turns out like that. How you been training him?

What i do is I hold him at night because hes tired at the point and thats when i touch him the key thing is being SLOW. I usually start stroking him slowly on his tail and work my way up to his back and just watch to see how he reacts.

See I tried that and Jasper still hates me :D HHope it works out!!! By the way you have a beautiful cham!!!

That just seems so... Not right to me. What on earth do you need to pet a chameleon for? It's unnatural for them to be petted. I can understand wanting him to crawl onto you willingly though.

Technically it's unnatural for anything to be pet because they were all brought in from the wild originally ;)

Just because its unnatural doesn't make it not possible..Why do you guys always have to be strict? If the chameleon allows it then its their choice.

I just meant that being touched by something (arm sized, at night at that!) on a chameleons back is very much (scary) like a predator trying to eat it. I hope you all get what I mean.

Don't mean to start anything.

I still think if the chameleon is ok with it then there is nothing wrong with it. If they do not run or show stress or hiss...I do not think its a problem.

Good luck with the cham holding:)

eh, i don't think there is anything wrong with what he is doing. obviously, he is working up a trust with the chameleon gradually and only taking as much as the chameleon is willing to give. but then again i'm not one of these never hold your chameleon, it's not natural, people. mine happens to stress over it so i respect that and don't get him out unless it's necessary.
