Spurs!! Help Please!

Tiff, I once ordered a female ambanja panther from a reputable dealer. I was later informed from this forum that I actually had a male sambava panther. Imagine my surprise!!! He is still one of my favorites to this day!!!! God Bless you Amos!!

Thanks for the pics Laurie! Amy/Amos gave the same ungrateful reaction to my camera as your boys did, lol! I am still really not sure if my cham is male or female. The 'bumps' certainly aren't round nubs like the ones in your pics, so I am just as confused as ever! Guess I'll just have to wait til s/he gets a bit bigger.

Hope I don't add to your confusion!!! Here are a few pics of Frogg at 3-4mo. A little different perspective on the spurs. Some are a little blurry, sorry.

Its a boy....

That is a boy....

You can see the bars coming in.... this is obviously an exaggeration... LOL but look at the original and the other pics... you can make out the orange/yellow color there...

This is my full grown male, Jake.

Here you can see I highlighted his bars... that your guys is hinting at... and you can see I circled the six spots of brown your guy already has... You can see how they come into play once he is older by looking at the above picture of Jake.

:DSummoner - that was very helpful, but as you realise, that's not my cham! They already know that Frogg is a boy! Lol! :D That's made my day! Still doesn't help me, but gave me a laugh anyway!:D

Thanks Frogg. My cham doesn't have any brown patches yet. Frogg looks a lot bigger than Amy/Amos who is also approx 4 months old. Amy/Amos has very orange/pinky coloured ridges above the eyes and the front edge of the casque like Lily used to.

wow ok I am a moron.... I didn't realize who I was commenting to until just now............

You show some great points on what and how to look for details if spurs are questionable. I enjoyed it, and yes we knew Frogg was a boy!!!:D:D

Good luck with your little one!!! Just wanted to give you a few more angles to compare with!! I can imagine it is frustrating and exciting at the same time!! We are all awaiting the final outcome!!!

Hey Tiff!

Just saw this now... I would vote 100% that is an Amos!:) The spurs are very obvious in the pics as well as his developing barring. Don't let your mind play tricks on you;)... Sometimes when you had your mind set on one sex... it can be easy to trick yourself into leaning towards the sex you want, or remaining undecided, I have been through this before.

I would be a monkeys uncle if that turned out to be a female.

Thanks for your input Joe! You said you've been through this before - what happened with yours?

I'm quite open to the fact that Amy might actually be Amos, lol! It would be nice if it was decided for me - I would not have chosen a male over a female, but if I have an Amos then that's cool too - this cham is staying no matter what! Thing is, there were no spurs when I picked her - I made a point of checking her feet! I thought that the spurs were obvious from hatching, but Amy/Amos was 12 - 14 weeks when I got her and not showing any signs of them at all. I was 100% she was female and they are not always visible - some days they look like extra skin and others there's a bump. I saw 3 males at the rep shop yesterday and the bigger one had feet like Amy/Amos and the other two smaller chams had big obvious bumpy spurs.

I hate to share my experience here as it may just confuse you more:eek:... But I had a young rescue Veiled that was given to us as a male a couple years ago... And because as a rescue we had no intentions to breed it at the time. When I gave it a quick look over, there was what appeared to be a little spur, and since they were so intent it was male I just accepted that and walked away. We gave it a male name, and started bringing him up to health(he was very dehydrated/underweight). As I examined the spur later on when I had him at home, it was either a very puny spur or a butchly fem. I would look at it and think..."There is definately something there, but not nearly as apparent as other males I had seen." As time passed and the cham matured the features were increasingly female. Well sure enough we have a female... I just kept going back and forth, because for so long not being really concerned about the sex of the cham... I just think that since I called it by a male name for so long, that my mind kept tricking me, and making me see a spur, where there was just a bony heel.:D She has blossomed into a beautiful healthy girl, with some amazing patterns and colors. Her name was changed to Sookie... and now she is Lombardi's GF!

No Doubt this girly is a girl!:D

Thanks, Joe! At least I'm not the only one that is confused by their cham's sex! I thought I was seeing things or going mad, lol! I've got a couple more pics to upload and they were taken seconds apart but in one the spur is more prominent than in the other.

The spur is there in pic 1 but not in pic 2! There's some very nice barring showing though! Normally s/he is bright green but the camera gets instant brownness and attitude to match! I'm just even more confused! Maybe Amy just has fat feet, lol!

:eek:EEK! I may eat what I said earlier about 100% male... Those pics look exactly like the heel on my girl that was confusing me when she was younger. Those last pics do look more female to me.

 Are you really confused now?

Yup... Sookie is the one who lured my boy back home.
