Stick Insects

Can I feed my Hoehnellis and Panther Chameleon stick insects (of the appropriate size obviously)?
 
what type of stick insect?
If you mean the common Indian Walking stick, then yes, you can. Make sure you know what the stick has been eating in the couple days before feedoff

I will ask as I have been offered some babies when available from someone at work. He said they eat ivy (which I believe is poisonous) so what should they be eating? I used to keep them as a child but it was a long time ago. :)
 
I was on ebay earlier today and they are pretty cheap on the uk one.....

Thank you. I didn't think of looking there. I'm still haven't seen the guy from work but if I can find the time and room I might otherwise just buy some adults. Anyone know how much time I would need to look after them? With all my reptiles, seahorses and marine fish I don't have a lot spare lol..

Its fairly minimal. Add fresh bramble roughly weekly (depends how many you have). Clean out roughly weekly (must be careful to burn or otherwise destroy the unwanted eggs that will be amongst the droppings - dont just dump in the garbage). Spray with water every other day (depends on humidity in your location).

Thanks, I can do minimal. :) I spend enough time on my feeders as it is lol. What do you think to these cages for them and the QBox for babies?
 
I decided just to buy some of the Indian Walking ones from Ebay like you suggested David. :) Nice and cheap. I just caught the bidding at 9 mins to go lol.

So how should I house the nymphs? Can I use the QBox do you think?

Also what shall I put on the bottom. I can buy a liner but I wondered if I could use kitchen roll or would they eat it?
 
Local universities (or at least UC Davis) entomology departments have got a big selection of stick insects. You may want to check with a local university and see if they have got an entomology department and check on there species of stick insects and legality status. UC Davis has a huge selection of stick insects and can find species through university wholesalers that normal hobbyists cannot access.

Somewhat depends on type of chameleon, and what the other types of feeders are that you are using.
Im big on variety, so I'd suggest only offer stick bugs only once weekly or once every two weeks, amongst a long list of other choiced rotated through the other days of the weeks.
