I have a panther chameleon his name is gizmo he is about 8 months old lately he has been wanting to eat more than 15 cricket during meal time, I also have been giving him one superworm a week not sure how some people feel about that. I have read that they are okay but high in fat? My question is can I switch him lrg crickets now? Here is a pic of his mouth... uploadfromtaptalk1402958550819.jpg

A safe size is something that's the length in between the his eyes because depending on where u get ur crickets the size large could vary. Some reptile pet stores even sell large mediums.

The rule is that the width of the insect shouldn't be wider than the space between his eyes, if it were length we wouldn't be able to feed off almost anything! :)

I can't really tell from the photos how big he is, but compared to the fake leaves he seems small still for an 8 month old so I don't know what size cricket he can handle. I don't know where you live, but if you are in a city with at least one exotic pet store that isn't a large chain, you might be able to order crickets through them (if you don't want to order them to your door from an online vendor), and that way you can choose what size you need. So instead of being stuck between size 1/4" (tiny) or 1" (fully grown), you can order 1/2" or 3/4", or whatever. If not, perhaps look into ordering online, some sites do smaller bulk loads (like 250 or 500) so you don't have to get thousands at once if you don't want to.

And superworms are ok, they are fatty like all larvae but they can make up 10-20% of the diet. Mine get superworms a few times a week, they are one of the 4-6 feeders that I have on rotation usually.

Yeah my breeder said he was 5 months when I got him but I think he is alot younger than he said I'm guessing now he is about 5 -7 month's...
