Sticks from outside

We have a new baby coming- I let my children pick some sticks for his cage- how exactly do I go about getting them ready for his cage? I've read where people bake them.

Yes, I would bake them at about 200 degrees for about an hour and sand them if they have any rough areas or bark.

Congrats on the new cham! What kind is he?

I'm just kidding lol he really is a kammer from kammerflage kreations but he's what they call "tour of Madagascar" little bit of everything in my dude. To be exact, thanks to their impeccable book keeping he is 34.375% Ambilobe x 33.20375% Ambanja x 26.5625% Sambava x 3.90625% Nosy Be x 1.17125% Tamatave x 0.78125% Maroantsetra. His sire was an oops. They had some baby is the same cage at a show, and a 4 month oldie bred a 5 month old female. They decided to keep the female and see what surprises were in store and out came my babies sire. He's gorgeous. His name is jarl.

Thank you for the stick info! I was just going to wing it- but my kids were so precise when they picked these sticks out that I thought, I better check the forums just to be sure. Didn't want to ruin their hard work!

I'm beyond excited for him to arrive! He will be here Thursday-but I'm going to give him a few days to settle in before I post any pictures! I do have a picture of him sent by the kammers if you would like to see!

Those parents are incredible! I'm sure he's going to turn out incredible, we'd love to see photos of him when he arrives (and as he grows up, of course!)

I don't usually do anything to my sticks except give them a good rinse, but you can definitely bake them for a little.

Absolutely. Be looking for the pics Sunday. He should be good an settled in by then.

As for sticks- ok do you feel an hour is too long to bake?

Wowza! This outside stick project is a labor of love! Hand sanding the bark off these sticks is exhausting lol good thing I have some kids who think it's totally fun! Haha

Labor of love or just crazy. Not a single stick in the forest they live in has been baked our sanded. Some of the advice given on this site is a little exaggerated. There is little risk posed to your chameleon from outside sticks.

Your probably right, but I'd rather be save then sorry. Know what I mean? Plus I live in a farm town. Lots of pesticides are sprayed.
