Strange behaviour

Our Yemen has just dangled from a vine by his back legs and swung from side to side hissing. There's no other animals in his line of sight and no-one disturbed him

Any ideas as to what he's up to?

He's just done the swinging from side to side and hissing again. This time he's in an upright position near his basking area and let go of the vine with his front legs to do it.

Again he's not been disturbed, I'm just sat here like normal on my pc, no-one else in the room. He can't see his reflection in anything either. If it makes any difference he's at the highest possible point in his enclosure. Earlier when he did it he was half way down.

my veileds get on edge when i wear bright colors like orange, yellow, and red. they dont hiss at me but i do notice behavior changes on the aggressive side.

Does the aggression directed toward you? it's pretty easy to see if they are hissing at you or at something else.

By line of sight, do you mean that there is nothing in front of him (even if it's at the furthest edge of the wall)?
Their eyes behave almost like telephoto lens. They can zoom into things that are at very lengthy distance...

Is this happened shortly after the snake arrived?
where do you end up putting your corn snake in the room?

Mine doesn't like blue

Ooooo good call!

Mine had similar behavior when he could see my Turtle. As soon as i put up a visual barrier he calmed down

The snake is in an opaque plastic tub and was asleep out of view on both occasions he started hissing and swaying. He isn't reacting to me as I can get right up close to him and he's fine.

He's just done it again right now and none of my animals are out (spiders, scorpions, frog or snake). I'm not wearing anything brightly coloured and nothing in the room has changed. It's only today that he's started doing this.

Thinking about it this is the 3rd time today. The very first time we think he misjudged the strength of some branches and slipped/got stuck and we had to offer him a hand. Could he be annoyed from getting stuck this morning still perhaps?

he sees something all right...
Is this how he behaves? rocking back and forth and hiss.
This is just a clip i found at youtube, BTW. That's not me filming it, Nor that is my chameleon.

Do you mind telling me, where exactly do you put the other animals?
Is it under his cage? top of his cage? in front of his cage? on the side of his cage?

Distance doesn't matter. With their telephoto lens eye, they can zoom in to any objects at long distance. and I doubt you have a room that is too big for a chameleon's eye to zoom

The way I prevent my chams from seeing my other chameleons in the room is by putting their cage side by side and put thick cardboards in between of each cage as visual barrier.

Is there any objects that are moving? Are you moving real fast at that time?
I know sometimes my chameleon gets irritated when I do sudden movement.

When chameleon got hurt, they will get irritated during that time.
But, they should calmed down after a while. I do not think they will "remember" and decide that he will be cranky for the rest of the day. Only human does that. :p

Pretty much except he sways more violently. I honestly can't see anything that would be causing this reaction.

in this case, he definitely is annoyed and stressed by something.
Assuming that there is nothing in the cage itself, then the culprit must be outside of the cage.

The only time I see my veiled do that is when he saw the spiral lamp decoration got blown by the wind (remember I mentioned to you a little bit in your other thread?).

I moved the whole lamp and he finally calmed down. I realized that second that the way the decoration moved by the wind made it looked like a snake coiling.

You can cue a bit by noticing in the direction of his line sight.
you can get some kind of card board and blocked that side of the cage. See if he calmed down after that.
I added a bit more questions on my last post.
Can you answer those questions?

I need to go soon.. But, i bet other members can help you a bit more.
I will come back online tonight and try to help you pin point the cause (unless if the mystery is solved by the time i get online :) )

Good luck!

The tank next to the flexarium is where I've just put the snake. I've covered the side up. Pretty much all the various tubs you can see have spiders in with the exception of one with locusts but that was empty this morning.

The TV is blocked from his line of sight by the curtain but I've had it on plenty of times since getting him. We bought him on the 24th january and today is the first time we've seen this behaviour.

Nothing is moving fast, I've not made any sudden movements.

EDIT: He's just now fallen down to the bottom!

Sounds like a vet visit is in order, and quickly.
Has he been pooping? I recall a thread about an impacted chameleon that was hissing, became listless.

ouch :(
Can't believe the thing that can happen just several hours absent.
let us know any update on your veiled.
I hope everything will be all right..
as far as the snake goes, are you saying the tank where there is a pothos on top?

I see that the cage is near the window...if you live in a cold area he may have been in a draft.

Another possibility is that something is stuck in his throat or where the tongue is stored.

Don't have any clear idea of what it could be...but I think I would get it checked out ASAP...I think he's in trouble from your description of his hanging by his back legs, lethargy, cold feeling, falling, etc.

He wasn't in a draft, we have double glazed windows.

I posted in the health section last night as he went down hill very rapidly. Unfortunetly he has since passed away.

Right now I'm not sure he'll be replaced. I thought we were doing well with him, he seemed to have settled in fine. We'll leave it a few weeks at least and then see how we feel, seeing his empty enclosure is pretty upsetting.
