Stupid newbie question

But I need to ask it. How do I dust crickets? Like how much powder per how many crickets and whatnot? I have a little critter cage with tiny crickets (since Solomon is just a little weener) and I have that nasty orange gel that's calcium fortified and lettuce and carrots in the for them to munch. And I got calcium with no d3, calcium with d3, and a reptile multivitamin. What now?? I'm fricken obsessed with getting this right, if he dies I will be broken hearted. He is my new baby!

people do it diffrent ways. i personally take a single criket in a feeding and dust its back untill it has a white coat. than the rest are un-dusted. i feed the dusted first. i use this shedule

without d3- daily
with d3- 10th and 20th
multies- 10 and 20th

this is repcal. you can also take the crikets and put them into a bag and shake them with the dust. you dont want little goast crikets so learning how much to use might take a few feedings. if he's getting to much you will notice him blowing salts(white stuff comeing out of his nose)

I cup feed. I shake the calcium into the cup first- I have it in a salt shaker- 2 shakes. Then I put her feeders of the day in there. As I walk to her cage I have my hand over the top and swirl the feeders. they get a light dusting not ghosts.

I do Calcium without D3 daily-but never on a Sunday because:
Then 2x's a month- I chose Sundays. I do calcium with D3 1st and 3rd
and I do the vitamins on Sunday 2nd and 4th of the month:D

I hought I read somewhere vitamins and D3 should not be done at the same time. I could also be wrong on this...

oh no. i've never heard that b4  i've posted my way of doing it sence i got clair and no one told me. no ill effects tho and i've been doing so sence i joined. i use that on both clair and chloe but chloe gets alot less and her calcium isnt everyday. ^^ i'll change it if you find a link or something that says putting them together is bad. i dont want any potental problems.

ps- i hand feed. i used to cup feed but i FR and hand feeding is easyist to me now.

I use the cup method too, and that also allows me to feed the baby right from the cup so they look past the cup, see me, and eat. It made the meller's stop puffing up every time I entered the room, and is slowly getting the kinyongia used to me XD Chameleons are kinda like men... the way to their heart is through their stomach :)

I will go looking for it. like I said I could be totally wrong on this. Sometimes I am here way to late, but I will look :)

i do the same as Linda.

*Crickets in a plastic container ( i use the Chinos ice tea containers).
*shake a lil of the CAL, Vitimin, whatever in there. lid on.
*swerl, shake, whatever you like. I let the kids shake it to kingdom come.lol
*Then i put the container straight into their cages ( they have gotten used to knowing that once the container is coming m it's din din time!!
* if i put too much powder for whatever reason, i try to just get the crickets out and into a clean container.

thats itt!!

And D3 and Multivitimin should alternate ONE DAY, every other week.

*First Friday of the Month :Cal with D3
*2nd Friday of the Month : Multivitimin
*3rd Friday of the Month : Cal with D3
*Last Friday of the Month : Multivitimin

Cal without D3 Daily!!

I have the other 3 also, collecting dust!!

once a month i dust with Cal with D3 for good measure! lol

I have lots of stuff collecting dust, especially all the things that came with Lily and the things I bought before coming on this site. I will be %#$%^ to have something else in that pile:rolleyes:

Okay I like the alternating weeks thing! My brain functions better on a routine lol. Now how on earth do you get a cham comfortable enough to eat right from your hand? He does not love me. Every time I walk into the room his cage is in, he kind of gives me a dirty look and turns dark. Such a tude.

Give it time!! He is still setteling in. He may never "love" you. But you can get to an understanding. lol

most multivits have d3 and calcium already included thats why not recommended to use together.

Hahaha alright, I'll take it.

lol. My Veiled hated me!! Now he is like a big puppy dog!

I was handeling him once and he tongue slapped me on my eyebrow, guess it looked yummy!

Later you will notice that they become cage protective, but once out of the cage they calm down and will walk/climb all over you.

For now just let him be , eat, drink, build a sense of security.
