So I reaaallly reaaallly want one, because of their size and beauty!!!

These animals are nice and easy going...

Problem is, I live in an area NJ, where it gets below 0 during the winter time.

At most, I can provide him a play pen, of around 12 ft. squared indoors.

This isn't fair to him though once he is bigger.

If I get a youngster, small guy, hand size, how long will it take before he NEEDS more than a 12 ft. squared pen?

Is it even possible to keep him free roaming in a room that is 20x15x7 (LxWxH) For a medium sized guy?

If I could get a room in my house that is of that size, is it possible to keep him for good? Do these animals do well together? I believe so, but cannot remember as I am typing this.

These guys are sooooo awesome!!! I really want one!!! I could possibly set up a room with a basking spot, and other requirements/options to keep him comfortable.

I have read and been told they require I large nice space to roam around.

If I do get one, could somebody promise to adopt him from me? All I expect you to do is pay for shipping. If you can give him the yard he deserves/needs, that's a nice sub-adult or juvenile for the cost of shipping...

I am not sure if a zoo would be a good home in this area just because if they do house him indoors, I doubt they would provide him the adequate space he needs.

Man oh man I want a tortoise! That size is what amazes me, soooo awesome, so impressive!!! I would love to raise one and get updated pictures of him getting older!!! :)

I've been wanting one too, their so amaizing and they get so huge. My backyard is huge and my theres cacti plants growing, the only reason i havent bough one is because of my dogs I know they would mess with it...

I took in a rescue who is the size of a two year old but is actually 9-10. He had somewhat severe MBD and it caused his carapace to become somewhat deformed. He lived in a 29 gallon tank and had some muscle atrophy at one point. He now has almost full use of his legs and happily lives in a 10x20 pen for now. He hasn't seemed to grow much if any since I got him. He was fed fruits and lettuce once a week with no grass/hay source or water source. I don't expect him to get very large, and not even close to normal size. Maybe if you have the resources you can rescue one or adopt one who has been rehab-ed.

If not, there are ways to make the animal grow slower at about the rate of wild sulcatas. I think it's the healthier and better way to raise them anyways so they don't have any pyramiding or other problems later on in life.
