Sulley's Current Condition-pics included

Sulley is very dehydrated and we cannot seem to correct it despite plenty of water, gatorade and hours of showers a day. He was diagnosed with "mouth rot" by the vet and we finished a course of Baytril (flouroquinolone antibiotic) on Thursday. He is no longer eating, pooping or producing urates- the fluid comes out hours later looking almost like when we put it in him. Yesterday we foud blood in his urine, vet said it could be a side effect of the Baytril.

At this point I have no idea what to do anymore. We are doing everything we know to keep this little guy alive.

When he was on the Baytril, did you make sure he had plenty of heat along with the loads of water you were giving him daily? What was his dosage?( I'm not sure whats and over doce for this drug but by me asking maybe someone else can help with that) Baytril can be real hard on their kidneys. How is the weather outside? I'd give him as much natural sunlight as possible.
 
Poor baby. When you took him to the vet did you have a fecal done? I know it seems out of the box but when their body is fighting an infection it lets their guard down for parasites to take over. Nasty parasites like coccidia can cause similar symptoms then what you are describing. Just a thought.

Is he still on baytril? How long has he been on it? Is the mouth rot improved? I would consider cultutre/sensitivity test and choose another suitable antibiotic if needed.

EDIT- Sorry just re read your post. I would take him back to the vet for fluids. That might help give him a little energy.

What kind of setup do you have for him - ambient temperature, basking light (temp/wattage), humidity (aside from when you mist him)?
 
His dosage was low, I don't know the exact strength but I do know we were giving him 0.05ml twice a day. He was getting heat,but he doesn't bask anymore (So I guess I should say heat was provided). The weather here is hot, usually in the mid 90's. The only time he perks up is when he is in the shower. Otherwise, he just sits in the same spot and won't move for hours. I've been weery of putting him outside in the heat since he has been so dehydrated lately but I'll give the sunlight a shot and see how he does. I'm willing to try anything at this point.f
 
mid 90's is too hot for them all the time... I keep my panthers around 78 degrees ambient temperature with a basking area of 85-90. He needs a place to cool down, which might be why he perks up in the shower.

You also may want to consider using pedialyte as oppose to gatorade. While gatorade is great it contains alot of sugar.

Is it possible to do a fecal test if he isn't producing any? I've thought about it but I didn't think you could do it if he wasn't producing and feces. The Vet and I were discussing switching him to an antifungal drug if the Baytril doesn't work, the only problem with those would be that they are harder on the kidneys than Flouroquinolone antibiotics...they are renal-toxic to humans as well. I believe the mouth rot improved a little (there doesn't seem to be as much foam build-up in his mouth and gut) but I'm not familiar enough with it to give you a definitive answer.

I haven't been keeping him in the 90's thats the outside temp. His usual temp is 75-80 and basking doesn't get higher than 90. I didn't want to put him outside for fear of the high temperatures.

Could vet give him SQ (under the skin) fluids? It may help give him a little energy.

Hes not passing anything? Diahrrea anything?

I don't know about SQ fluids. I'll ask on Tuesday when I call them with my updates.

He's only passing the fluids we give him. They go in as clear fluids and come out the same. We have even managed to give him a couple of waxworms last week (since they are soft and shouldn't hurt to eat) and we still have only seen fluids. Other than the worms, he doesn't hunt/eat. He also doesn't shoot his tongue to drink anymore.
 
Is there a way to put him outside with both sun and shade available and a mister running the whole time he is out? If he perks up in the shower he know he need water. JMO.
 
I forgot its a holiday weekend:( Your not giving baytril any longer correct? If you are I would stop. Hydrate with showers and give him pedialyte a couple times a day is all you can really do for him right now.

If he does so happen to poop check and see if he digested those wax worms or if he just passed them hole.

No, I don't have a way to constantly mist him. A mist king was going to be the next set-up investment.

Correct: No more Baytril. I think He's already had 2 or 3 showers already today and will have several more. I will switch his gatorade out for clear, flavorless pedialyte.
 
I'd take him outside on his favorite plant and sit out with him in the shade, with a spraying bottle to mist him frequently, for about an hour or two a day. Usually either in the early morning or the late afternoon when it isn't to hot. You also said he wasn't eating? Have you tried to offer silkies or hornworms to help hydrate more?
 
Did the vet clean out the areas thoroughly where the mouth rot was/is? Did s/he do a culture and sensitivity test on the exudate taken from the mouth rot? How long did it have mouth rot?

There are tests for fungi that can be done too....if your vet thinks it might be a possibility.

Does his vent always stick out like that?
Can you fill in the questions in the "how to ask for help" section please...it might give us some clues.

How long has he not been eating? I notice his head pads are not protruding much.

When a chameleon is sick it can have sunken eyes that make it appear that its dehydrated but it may be a symptom that its sick rather than just indicating that its dehydrated if you know what I mean.
 
Thompson, No silkies or hornworms. I haven't been able to get my hands on any. No one local sells them. Also, I didn't know they would better his hydration status so I haven't tried to get any online either. Any recommendations (dealer/size)?
 
Mulberry farms has them. I just get the silk worm and hornworm cups and grow to desired size. But yes please fill out the how to ask for help form so we can help you some more.
